I'm at Deegan and this is us 6 and your predictions special were invited select group of me.

Look ahead of the trends that will define 20-22 get ready to hear about Avon the rocky road ahead for the BBC and much much more plus will also hold are pandas to account you said last year.

That's all to come in today's Media podcast the new guest on the show Hannah Russell from podcast consultancy Mags creative, can I walk into the show happy to be here this Media trend special looking at the median.

You're using the median of the podcast from the team behind the hit show deliciously Ella somax great have been around for quite a while now.

Have you found it's changed over the past few years.

We've been around since 2018.

So yeah a while but still feel relatively young and it's definitely changed.

It's changed so much.

I mean when we were starting out.

Like a lot with influencers and people with audiences on other platforms and transferring those audiences from existing platforms over forecasting was much much easier and I think what we found is that it's just not enough anymore to be someone with her with an audience on social or or Elsewhere and just launch, Podcast it's really not enough so yeah, that's been ages, but I think kind of exciting new content development bigger audiences.

It's grown ok, what was your first prediction for 20-22 if you want to start the phone that's 5400 all in up to you prediction number one.

What have you got? No pressure? I think my first prediction for this year is that podcasts and TV on more than just siblings who share the same house and I think what I mean by that is I think that the link between those two Industries is going to deepen in various ways, so I think we've we've seen that you know we've got.

Shows to existing TV shows launching a podcast and they do you really really well.

I think they're going to be ways of working together that kind of exist outside of that so we're going to look at companies making big highest without metal casting to use I think people realise now took us a TV not the same thing different kind of production skills, but I think there's also going to be a kind of genuine content developer for TV companies and we talked about that for a while.

So you know we've heard it's cheaper.

It's easier, but it is cheaper and it is easier and I think with the kind of continuation of the pandemic restrictions in cost of occasions that covid has on TV development.

There are really going to be some opportunities for for TV companies and podcast companies to work together to test ideas quickly to build stairs to see how Talent perform and I think the interesting thing for me is that for TV companies you know I've talked to them and thought for a while that actually sometimes.

But I think what they're looking at here is long-term IP ownership so building something either in-house or in partnership with other cars company retaining more of that ownership than you would it a TV deal building out the content and ipr of your business and I think that's going to start to happen over the next couple of months because I had from with TV companies they often see the the podcast thing as a nice extra to have didn't you're saying it's going to become much more front and centre of what they doing definitely that comes with no podcasting is there is it here to stay and I think actually it is sticking around obviously that's my prediction.

I've got my own business on it, but I really do think that I think you know audio off screen the whole move away from spending hours in hours looking at screens.

I think podcast are going to play into that and podcast going to grow as a result and so as a TV company.

I would be looking at ways to diversify the type of content.

I think those relationships can get deeper it's going to be collaboration.

It's going to be hiring maybe some small acquisitions because I mean there's a lot of kind of indie podcast companies may be with some of the TV development companies that I think it's going to get more serious than welcome back.

What have you got for my number one actually successfully closer broadcastchannel, even when all of the inevitable backlash politicians kicking off about it.

You was The Moaning it actually go we going to have to make the saving we can actually do this properly and something that we know and love will vanish from the airwaves.

So this is closing down and then not even reopening it later on yeah that I mean.

That's the normal way that they do this Tim Davie in 2010 when we can't have the Asian Network and 6 music in the process accidentally.

Text music since higher listening figures in a year and this time.

He will actually see something through exactly what that will be when I'm not foolish enough to the name of particular service because that that is just going to ring me when you come back to me for the end of the year.

What ok then if you're not going to say that what do you think is potentially on the chopping board? Well? I would be worried if I was at five live.

I think some of the BBC terror bit crazy because you can just rung those down and fill them with cheaper content rather than closing them.

There's no real purpose and doing that but you know if you're if you're a national patient that isn't one of the really cool offering and you're not seen as a bit of public service thing like Radio 3.

I would be worried for something like five live because I think it's the make the argument that a lot of what offers is replicated Elsewhere and if you're going to have to try and make tens of millions and savings and sort of Salford

It's going to be but I think you'll be a hole in the airwaves by the end of the end of the year at least one planned of the likely to say the couple hundred billion this year and next year not something they can put off so it's probably going to have to really cut into real programming rather than mystical back office costs number to Hannah say my second prediction is that I think there is still space for some of the Bee Gees some of the Tech biggies to go begging to forecasting and I think it's going to be FOMO or it's going to be strategic, but I think there's there's still space that to happen so you've got YouTube Netflix Facebook rumblings Google obviously we've got Google podcasts, are they going to do it properly is there going to be some kind of Strategic Thinking behind that and I think you don't particularly with Netflix having what I just talked about in my first prediction budgets for soda.

Thinking about kind of viewing it as a real kind of content factory hate that phrase, but I can't think of a better way to Fraser than that and so I think some of those big tech companies moving into the space and I think with that there is still some room for consolidation.

So maybe there's still some acquisitions to happen.

Obviously most of the atscale players have been bought already so wondering to Amazon and Parker Spotify but I kind of collective of some of the smaller Indies being bought by one of those big tech Giants in order to kind of make the entrance.

I think he's not out of the question this year for other platforms get involved in podcast flicks Mayday hire from Apple didn't know this year and they're to the building out like a little podcasting portfolio Google has gone brake wire on the podcast in front Google podcast teams of all have moved to the people have sort of disappeared, but then the thing that they have done the alphabet is YouTube have hired a big head of podcasts and we do you think YouTube

Going to be the new destination for broadcasters is already a destination for broadcasters and I think it's a Discovery destination and I think it's a vastly underrated and the cost the marginal cost of this reading forecasts on YouTube and using it as a part of a an audience growth strategy for for a podcast is really worth it, but I think you probably looking at YouTube or Netflix kind of really couple both.

Hopefully coming into the fray and sort of shaking things up a bit and potentially having the kind of strategy became really major player maybe more quickly than say Spotify has done because I think there's a lot of momentum behind both of those platforms in different ways that could really help them to become quite important and will Netflix make a bit of a splash or started like smashing games games app around someone there a pee and then acquisitions and I think this is.

Set against the backdrop of the move too kind of off screen so the idea that we're spending 8 hours a day working from home and actually that screen for tecaz be nothing for a really long time.

It's really coming to roost and so I think you know these platforms where screen time is the currency I don't think it's a silly bear too kind of bear on some of that screen time being diverted space the reasons of wellness health and mental health but also just for practical reasons to audio kind of content so I think it might not be a huge part of their businesses to start with but if I was looking play the kind of world is going I would certainly be wanting to put some of my hats in that ring and predict number to be going for the one that is a coin toss and it's going to come back and haunt the government the Channel 4 privatisation into the long grass and will forget that it was everything that we spend about you talking about I mean everybody.

An advert about white Channel 4 is brilliant and different which honestly I thought feel like it's about me and about 3 other MPs because because I can't believe any normal member of the public is going corporate Channel 4 advertising all over London at the moment, but I feel that we getting used to be a political reporter.

I feel we're getting a bit close to an election the BBC start showing that it's not necessarily the straightforward.

I also don't think that the Tories support based care that much about privatising Channel 4 and it was always John whittingdale the former broadcast Minister's pet project so if I'm just pick a different battle and the BBC because everyone on the BBC well.

I think one of the things which Channel 4 is is offering the view of it.

Politician to deal with n use output of the public I don't think they might watch it enjoy some of it they might not they might have been for Grand Designs they might not but the idea that the very great planner outside of a small section of the industry and a few MPs in Parliament for it to be privatised it just why would you take up all of your time doing that about a year and a half hour from a general election on the public front obviously there's only Really Channel 4 news.

I think that the public maybe think about most I never watch it and also what channel.

Does it cost the government any money because all the cash comes from advertising tell that for the garage the other week.

She said she was amazed to find out that young people watched on YouTube will the Channel 4 consultation outlive dorries as culture secretary.

She has a Korean culture secretary that could be measured in week, so I could be measured in a few months, but I liked her when she was announcing the critters and the BBC in the House of Commons the other day that she just kept repeating well frankly, I won't be around here to implement any of these decisions anyway, so it was so much something but there's no way.

I'm seeing this one which must be positioned you can just all sorts of announcements and not have to deal with the consequences government ministers.

Just don't stick around long enough and you'll be alright about the BBC there.

She think about the BBC and what the BBC is doing does it affect you guys had strong feelings towards Channel 4 and I think essentially you know the idea that there's a whole group of us out here really really caring about whether it continues to be publicly funded or not is

Is just not the case you don't really see on Twitter people saying #d fun Channel 4.

Do you have you got a final prediction for us? I have a final prediction and I would say my final prediction is more of a business opportunity to eat than a prediction because I think that this is the year when the in the podcast creator is going to get a bit more attention and should get a bit more attention.

So you don't we talk often and the podcast industry about the top 1% of shows the shows that are reaching you know 10:00 listeners, but actually that other 99% is a huge opportunity and is only set to grow this year, so a car's did some research recently that said 10% of the UK population is planning start podcast this year and I mean I mean I don't know how good their data is but if you take that at face value.

That's another 6 million podcast coming into the ecosystem this year.

It's going to be a

Quality, it's going to be a range of topics but all of those people are dedicated enough to often find a microphone work out how to do it get an RSS feed and upload it and I think those people both deserve and and require more attention in terms of the services that they want we obviously got hosting platforms.

It's an open ecosystem, but where's the Education where are all the answers rumblings of this and it sort of starting but I think it's going to really Game Face if that market grows at the pace that we're looking at it growing at those people will need kind of more services help with cut through to see one of the problems for podcast who is Discovery in if you got a lot of people spend a lot of money at the top how the great show the secrets basically cut through to the public.

These individuals have decided to make a podcast and they're audience that they want to reach might be 100 people a month but actually they want to do that really professionally.

It's around the recording around the editing tools making that as easy as soon as possible.

It's been around how do they create those assets really simply and easily for social promotion and I think that's already starting to happen, but what about kind of continued growth or monetisation of adventure together lots of different smaller shows and helping them to monetize those within particular niches and I think it's a huge opportunity because you've got a century the 90% of podcast creators out there who I believe are being underserved.

Thank you.

I will see you soon, but you'll have to be with us next January to see how you fed and will be catching up with you next history of Channel 4 for her Media trends for 20-22.

Well, my first prediction is that I'm excited by a Deborah Turness the new chief executive of BBC News has been appointed.

I think to bring fresh blood a fresh eyes and and they certainly she will bring a dynamic presence and she was recruited back ITN only last year from different rolling news channels to move on.

I think as well.

I would think that there's going to be quite a changing of the guard at the BBC and I would I would love to Hope happens.

Is that I'm really not with the sort of idents of BBC News you know the way you get the Dome diamond the red lines sort of trying to make you feel you're part of a globe intro has been around.

I don't know.

Two decades maybe more and it's just got very stale, so I said to her.

I hope that she just gives the whole thing a good how can I put it a shot of dynamism?

My second prediction is that I think we are finally going to see an online safety bill a comprehensive online safety bill.

I would expect later this year though.

You can never be sure this has been Champions by the Conservative MP Damian Collins and there are other very strong people in the House of Lords and Baroness beeban, kidron is a key champion of the for the Protection of children from pornography and other unsuitable material.

It has been through the committee scrutiny stage if the plans go ahead and we will know in April

I said predictions I feel something what happened to ITV and I'm not exactly sure it sounds a bit strange because it clearly has the neglected commercial channel which has Public Service Broadcasting obligations.

Obviously it's actually doing pretty well for advertising thunder television clearly the lockdown periods have been queued huge bonuses for the streaming services the subscription services which have tempted so many to watch more and more of their very addictive contact which I'm only too aware, but whether anybody attempts are takeover bid.

It's always been assumed.

It was too complicated or some other expansion of the ITV Empire happens.

I just have a a sense that people are waking up to this it to its potential because

A strong studio base and it does have popular formats which it can both device and then monetize so it's been evolving quite slowly what's the things are in training something's britbox for example of the subscription service is not particularly catching on in this country, but it is catching on as a niche in in America for example.

So this is probably the Shakers to my predictions, but it is a prediction that something will happen.

If my only final thought is the expansion I don't see how it can continue to be very much for phenomenon of the out of London and the home counties.

Are you even though as We Know Lord of the Rings is taking over a big empty space? I think it's in Hertfordshire

But this geographical Focus I think it's almost band to take in other parts of the UK simply because of the cost of land and and Studios although these players like Netflix seem to have limitless pockets but some parts of the UK will start to see more activity Jake cancel Media correspondent for the times during to me now.

Hi Jake hello, so we love you very much too.

You know that would you subscribe day at Larry David's deadline of January 7th? I'm just having a quick look at last year to try and give you a bit of a score so you started off with Oliver dowden will Kickstarter PSP Revolution

Do that and it was nice and baby wasn't it? I think I was probably right on that front.

Ok.

I mean that we got an ongoing Public Service Broadcasting by the government which is being conducted by a fairly shadowy group of TV and Illuminati we're not entirely sure what they're talking about behind closed doors and quite how their recommendations and observations are going to manifest but we will probably hear more this year about the work that they have been doing and how that will shape policy over the coming years and then of himself out of that revolution by being reshuffle to like all dcms ministers.

Are he was reshuffled vary dramatically in September

Live at the Cambridge convention at the RTS Cambridge convention for a period of a few hours there was a will.

He come will he not come and there's a little played out in the pressroom which is very entertaining ultimately of course.

He did not come and his speech was handed to John whittingdale to deliver to delgany interview to the I couple of weeks ago in which is basically said he appeared to indicate.

They didn't massively agree with some of the things that the speech said I think he said it wasn't me who bloody wrote the thing and then himself to make it past the next 24-hours.

He was sat next day.

So nice to know the government care so much that the media sector is now yes, it's not like we've got big things going on but it going to shape the whole industry for decades to come and then we've got the BBC will close a TV channel.

Yes, I seem to make this every year and get it wrong every year what the BBC has done quite clever.

I think I've spoken about this on the podcast before actually it is instead of closing a TV channel and having to deal with the floor a that entails.

They have quietly holiday out BBC4 basically a BBC4 is 86% of something like that over 80% repeat and barely anyone has kicked up a fuss so they've took that budget that Resource and put it into BBC2 and BBC1 and BBC Three witches real launching on February 1st and there's been Bailey a bad word said about it, so it's quite a clever strategy the BBC to redirect Resource and not have to deal with the consequences of people.

Can you play me watch Top of the Pops on anyway? Don't they have never never I don't know what that that you and most of the country also supposed to trim down BBC Parliament as well.

Keep that will turn off online as well, so yes and lots of lots of cutbacks, but they keep the child's going and she said play create a new one well rebirth 1 launching a child with your predictions for 20-22 in just some things just had some play hip-hop set of the toaster dancing down the street to your favourite playlist sparkly boots to the shop and best of all speaking new pink scratchcard scratchcard, please.

Thank you.

I'm just before we had back to Jake's predictions.

We recorded this interview about a week ago.

Just before the injuries and that the government intends to remove the BBC licence fee in 2027.

Just keep that in mind now sit back and enjoy the presence of Mr J cancer.

So I've got a couple of BBC predictions actually for the year ahead and I think the big one that would probably going to see more of this year is Minister's I think the signalling the end of the licence fee we are going into a period where they're going to start 12:00 review which is essentially a half-time team talk on the BBC teacher and while ministers can't scrap the licence fee for the next five to six is because it's in trinding the charter which lasts over a decade what they could do is suggests that the next time the BBC's charter is up for renewal which

2027 the BBC will have to find an alternative means of income we are seeing Tory backbenchers calling for the licence fee with more ferocity and strength of feeling that I think I've ever seen before and we have not got the government disagreeing particularly that ambition and I think we will start to see this play out and a bit more and meaning for way over the next 12-months ok, so some more action at on the BBC Mr Peter bone and speak in pmqs this week and we also had some National Anthem bass chatter as well.

Is it the kind of be crap your end of BBC discussion, but I thought the peterboat thought it was a good opportunity to talk about that whilst giving Boris arrest.

Is partygate attacks well? It's a good distraction technique.

Yeah, it's a government is under Siege which it is this week the BBC is an easy target.

Do you think the BBC will push back strongly or be Meakin miles? Is it normally is the BBC's position is that the licence fee remains the most sensible way of funds the BBC now you could argue that the BBC would argue that because it's a fixed income which guarantees IT level of support the entire country, but I think what we all see the BBC saying is you know is there the mechanism and the ability to deliver funding for the BBC through alternative means the suggestion is that universal broadband is not as well established in the UK is it should be for there to be a sore switch over to online.

Subscription effectively and I think you'll see some of those arguments definitely play out from the BBC ok and prediction over to so I wanted to go from sort of a Big Mac prediction to something a bit more focused then it just drop me that we know we had the first Andrew Marr Show without Andrew Marr at the weekend and it's going to be quite a high profile process to find his replacement my prediction is that the next person to host the BBC Sunday morning? Show will be it will be a woman.

I think we've yeah.

We've had the best part of three decades of two men fronting that show David frosting Andrew Marr I think the BBC is seem to find a woman at 2 to fill those shoes all the gossip at the moment suggest that Laura kunz Berg and saying are.

The frontrunners for this for this position of courses announce that she is Stepping down as BBC political editor over the Easter over the Easter period and of course Sophie I don't think he's to be counted out.

I think she did a really polished and excellent job of stepping in and keeping the seat warm and potentially for her a lot of practice at it as well in the next few months whilst they make some decision, so she's definitely going to be in the morning.

So I are you going to be going to pump for Laura Kay are you going to push you gonna put 3441 I actually think it might be Michelle that's based on pure speculation.

I don't have the sources and not telling me that at this point but yeah if I was to hang my hat on one it will be Michelle I think.

Can someone you join me on the show is Dan Taylor what digital consultant until recently products for the BBC iPlayer and BBC sounds hello Dan no worries.

It's great for you to be here.

So you have actually quite a big job offer up until recently.

I'm sure you've had some whatever rest though.

I know that there's a little one that you've been looking after as well.

Perhaps is giving you a bit of time away from from Auntie from from The Corporation what are your big predictions in the media world for next year so I think that the obvious easy ones are just this year growth in content spend so I was reading this week that the global standards expected over 140 billion just from the top 9 Media providers say even Disney on its own 33 billion and I seen this Lord of the Rings the Amazon prequel.

Play of September 465 million just on that which makes me feel nostalgic about the 100 million for House of Cards I think specifically in the in the streaming days will see had a glass of new subscription on Demand services launching in the last couple of years Disney plus Apple TV britbox, Discovery classic cetera, I'm not expecting any Swansea to drop this year.

I think the awhile to HBO Max comes along some friends.

We will see is actually an increasing in vault safe from New entrance so I think that the people are the prices are going off Netflix and put their prices up in the States just just this week, so I think people start to think how many subs do I really want on my on my bill every every month and also increasing in live streaming as well, so I think we we have seen that.

Ian score with with Amazon and Discovery investing I think Design look like they might snap up BT Sport and Anna Parrish at iPlayer then I think that the FIFA World Cups like me to break if you are live streaming records for hair as well.

So maybe the the big subscription streaming apps like Netflix and Disney plus do Advertiser funded kind of video Video on Demand The more well-known ones and what's their role in in in the space now.

Do you think I think Samsung TV Plus is quite interesting say something with just put it in there the front of their you are not you are in done pretty well and would just streaming presenting it.

What is linear TV channel solicitor love the simplicity and convenience of of using those but just serving up an IP stream, so I think that the we will see your Amazon bring something separate imdb.tv.

There's Plex as well recruiting so very kind of players, but there a little bit under the radio at the moment, but the we know that the size of the overall viewing pie is huge and when when the price point is free if you add, then then that's going to be attractive because in America Roku channel is a combination of the boxes and their own service because of their distribution that Roku channels doing pretty well isn't that's becoming quite a big part of their part of their business the differences between the us and the UK UK TV economy and how Roku and indeed Apple TV have cut through.

A different set up here with with three TV but I know that you will certainly be looking to push into the UK more this year.

Ok, what have you got for us stopping at the encouraging me to to be bold content wise I think the easy prediction is that there will be another breakout tvhits so the the tiger king or squid game of the 20-22 not exactly zero funding but I think that the Netflix inventing Anna which I think could be based on a true story BBC sounds podcasts on as well.

I think that could be the great to hear back to my domain of the product development.

I think this is the year that.

The battlegrounds really gonna go to heat up for control of the the TV interface OK Google set a lot more TVs or or other country vied the user interface on a lot more TVs in the market.

Obviously the likes of Sky and Virgin are also going to hang on to that experience.

I think that's that's going to be a capacitive area and equally when it comes to sort of battleground playing out in is the in-car space and I think it's the stress cycle on that is fairly slow and but I think this is the year will start to see Android automotive really kind of getting sold in more new car that significant because it's for the first time the experiences and tied to your your mobile phone.

It's all integrated into the dashboard.

So I think that's going to be an interesting challenge.

Players new and old so traditionally used to put me in that their phones to their to their cars and iOS appearing in the form of Apple carplay or an auto popping up different isn't it though? It's easy to get confused.

It's not have built the operating system in the car for manufacturer is manufacturing sourcing how how their cars systems will work think of it in in much the same way is on mobile phones then Google is provided the Android app assistant different phone manufacturers integrated that there are looking to do something similar in car and also in fact on on TV so to be the source of the default operating system and to provide that on an open-source basis such that manufacturers can lay a bits and pieces on top of that call experiences is a really attractive proposition especially.

Movie manufacturers you can't afford all of the Investment required to do something totally bespoke so you might have heard there's been a bit of a discussion about the old BBC licence fee Nadine dorries getting her Twitter out the other day say that this will be the last period where the BBC be funded by the licence fee Waste at the BBC could be funded through a grant from the government advertising subscription Services if we flash forward to the the next licence term, what is the products that the BBC use of Nisa deliver consumers in in the future take it to can I compete with with all these other services if it's Force dinosaur of subscription vod Netflix root.

I think the key thing is the the BBC's meant for everyone and to provide a universality and I think there are different funding mechanisms that could achieve them.

Believe that subscription is one of them.

I think that the subscription would fundamentally changed the nature of what the BBC is able to do an offer and it would become more akin to provide market whereby it's much more of a Nisha this all kind of not catering for the audience.

I think that the licence is with us until 20 then.

I think that the in order to you compete with very well funded.

New entrance in in the market then the BBC needs to continue to be whatever the best mechanism of achieving that but I think you know freezing the licence the is is would result in effective effective funding car and that and that would play out on our online on services the BBC's also has a bit of a problem because I'm not allowed to borrow money to really go for it in the markets around the world.

An already there's there's some going to BBC Studios what is BBC worldwide streaming offerings for BBC thirteen cork for kids and brick boxing in some markets think there is an opportunity for a global iPlayer operator if they could borrow the cash to really go toe-to-toe with with Disney on Netflix do you think they're in the position that with the Brandon and their own content relationships? I think it's is not really a question of money on that one.

I think that the a lot of content deals have been done around the BBC is not in a position to the same catalogue globally so I think it will continue to be a different offer in different territories which it is not uncommon for the players as well.

That was on his fuse for board.

Your head and then the show this week.

We have media podcast regular Santos and France Osman hello hello so prediction time let's have a look at how you did last year and you're up first.

You said that voice based social Media apps will be big in 2021.

I guess who took it like Clubhouse and stereo into the spaces those things do you think you are correct? Yes, they were big are not necessarily as big now.

We had Clubhouse had huge months in February June July Spotify launch greenroom Twitter spaces launched and Facebook has launched whatever their version is in America that they haven't got rolled up around the rest of the world so we still don't know quite what to do with them, but they did have a moment in 2021 and what will happen with them this year.

I don't think that will be as big this year.

I think they're just become part of the staple things that people have in their systems.

Someone that they're not going to do anymore and roll it back again buttercup house is bringing out more features that are useful so I think it might move more into an alternative space of recording podcasts and things like that the space is having character.

I think when you've got a sort of social graph.

It's much easier to get into I'm very much.

Where are people popping up on Twitter spaces with things that are connected to me and my life and I'm interested in where is Clubhouse is sort of the bastard child of Lake LinkedIn and talk radio from my audio apps Clubhouse on Twitter just seem to be like completely populated with people trying to sell their nft scams and like they're bitcoin it.

Just seems where I'm sitting from it seems of grated into like if weird Pyramid Scheme of of light please buy nft and build its value live chat rooms.

I played a lot on Clubhouse into two spaces in the first half of the Year just kind of get across that they were doing and then it just became the amount of time.

It was taken to run and run regularly vs.

The return that time wasn't really worth it.

I do there is a regular Clubhouse room that I go into it's got nothing to do with radio 52 my other world.

There's a really good run by an excellent midwife who does it take for birth workers and that's really good and then Twitter spaces.

I think the problems with space is that I'm not on Twitter to listen to audio and despite the fact that obviously a lot of people I follow on Twitter are Ray-Ban audio people the fact that we're not using it much sort of shows that it's not necessarily going to be the huge thing that it it might have been but it's still go back to the fact that my prediction was not give you I give you a quote for that and maybe we'll have to do a media podcast after show party simulcast on Twitter spaces in Clubhouse later this year your second.

Commercial radio or steal a couple more BBC Talent as many as I thought they would be but I think Andrew Mark else absolutely off pitbike Yasmin going for one extra to Harton if you want a few more of those so get me Global particularly have been fishing in the in the BBC who do you think is likely to move the bed light to get hold of who do you think would would move from Broadcasting House so did the two people that I am surprised haven't yet? Popped up there Mark Mardell he has left the BBC now, but I'm surprised.

He hasn't been picked up again by anybody and also Jane Garvey I mean I know the BBC's kind of kept her on but I am surprised that nobody from lb global has taken me massive hint that she keeps dropping really interested and going there and obviously there's so many changes to retirement plans.

He's coming up and also the fact that pay rises are not necessarily going to be a thing especially for senior male Talent for a while.

There are picking to be hard to so yeah.

I guess it depends on the contract coming up on the commercial radio team side as well with Talent they've already got this year in a sec first mark is homework a strimmer will pick up on James Studios

Yeah, it's a bit of the deal itself is a little bit odd but they did it it's come and it's now.

I don't know if Jeff bezos is going to be the lion at the beginning of like all Indian film that's what I really wanted for his new girlfriend wife.

Maybe who knows but whatever it is.

I want to know what the new line is going to be in if I can buy on Amazon Prime and it's shipped to my house to your house fire price you can it be your will take 3 months but still be knocked off live do you live in job if you said hay for us.

We want you to sit in the MGM archive and work out which are we can turn into loads of series 4 for Amazon I mean? That's it is maybe but I think everyone keeps moving back to Bond and it going what's going on there.

Cos cos really like a Netflix E-Type series like on young Bond like that.

They could do with one of the other characters via kew.org pick pick a better it feels like that's what Amazon Prime needs to kind of really supplement whatever they doing with lord of rings etc.

So so that's what

Expecting to see but obviously MGM the Bond family be on one of the cold are very protective over that I P think is a bit of a shame because there's definitely An Appetite to extend that Brandon be done properly so it may be that was doing a bit of a let's wait and see how well Amazon treat Lord of the Rings before we let them have a go at our thing and my view.

It's a play for that because there's not really a huge amount the MGM have baba that won the franchise have more I'm being unfair but like Bond is the one that one talks about awesome storytelling.

Will you sit in the second half of the year? I mean 2021 has been bonkers right for amazing telling so I'm talking this and everything from succession sex education Steph lets flats like you know being in a pandemic and sucking your house has never been so brilliant.

We are in a in a

Platinum age of TV on my right it is crazy and the reason I made a prediction is that so much stuff got put on ice and couldn't be filmed during the kind of first let's call it big lockdown when it's only having a couple of parties but once he was like everyone was raving Downing Street didn't mean that some TV programs can be made and they really kill a year for the great telly and the car we have lots of thoughts about IP for the last year of the year of IP add base model of brake sport become more important itvbe on Channel 4 invest in IP where do you think the maybe the traditional UK broadcasters? Do they have a good ipu? Basically said loads of stuff in hope that something would be right and I think it's a right in that.

I think that the kind of the big-ip sports story was the US Open and the Formula 1 final which both kind of shared will shed Amazon Gifted

Which I think was a massive boon for Channel 4 and they did David well out of that but it's interesting to see that like literally like the rest of us can stand or 3rd.

It's a kind of like open up the browser and go to amazon.com to buy sports right now and it's a bit of a worry that's having to be the case and you know it and i p movies stared global format fund or something along those lines and that started to see some programs reality show about being that was coming out.

It's their first announcement around that phone.

So they're they're very much playing with the the multi revenue model should we say my name is a drag race has come off Netflix and One Direction to be doing their own app which will mean that you can be watching you need to connect Sky to another thing and obviously drag race is a massive bit of IP and they're looking to spend it off Netflix paw troll dolls back catalogue for

Amount of money so they can have a look in to see how they can exploit that I pee into something news.

It's definitely you know I P is definitely do the new oil as it were in the way.

It's always been but certainly there's a horse riding around the space also he did say and I will and I will Mark the IP about being charity giving a point in turning 20 episode Netflix series about how how Matt wants to give you appointment eponyme you put us and finally 2021 would be the year of extreme sports.

Yeah, and one that's quite death certificate to get into although.

I think it's really interesting to see Netflix do any credible series Rugby League of Legends and they think it's an animation series called arcane.

If no one seen it.

It's it's brilliant.

You don't need.

Gaming or exports down to watch it.

It's one of the best elevations possibly that's been ever made so do do look out for it, but aside from the whole cannot Eastbourne thing my Microsoft Game Pass and NVIDIA GeForce successful that prediction Game Pass went up to 37% but missed it's target.

It was hoping that they would do it.

Do it 50% but it's been possible to buy games despite the fact that it's been one of the biggest launches of the Xbox and PlayStation and that chip shortage was with seen had a time to my prediction was based around the idea that it will be supplemented by any kind of happened Google stadia is almost dead on arrival.

No one really knows what's going on with Amazon Luna but GeForce now is it's going to be the break out here of game streaming?

The Nintendo switch is what's everyone's buying and that console doesn't have the same HP as it's as it's competitors the PlayStation and Xbox but they're started doing game streaming technology can buy the game but you don't actually have it physically on a cartridge.

You're on your machine.

It is a streamed game interested in selling that as a as a stand-alone and then obviously Netflix got involved Netflix gaming and it was kinda.

Got the rise on that to see what that ends up looking like really.

It's been apple that has had kind of stop this and and put cold water on it is not allowing in the app store so that needs to settle down before we see what that looks like but the other side of it.

Is is the company take to who owns publishing rights to Grand Theft Auto they bought which people may remember from Facebook games like Farmville and word with friends for 13 billion which is bonkers me know we almost twice the price of what MGM was bought for so.

You know this get your space is still absolutely massive and the amount of money that spin around in it is huge is bigger than movies anyway.

Isn't it? That's may be ignored by the mainstream Media I don't forget that my wife would like me to forget it.

Stop taking over TV to play the new Forza Horizon think it's an amazing and there is some of the most creative storytelling in there and like I said arkamin Netflix the Uncharted films coming out in cinemas next year Sonic the Hedgehog Pokémon if they are all spilling out into into other spaces dominating stuff in the comic books did in the generation before for that because I think it's been a build but not the Year off Farah I'll take it this year ok.

I'm not feeling massively confident about all of these but will have a go I can get that Caviar in so start off with the an easy one at the BBC

Resettlement will be a cut in real terms and will not be not be good news to BBC I also think that they will not to do enough to mark their 100 anniversary.

They might few programs are there but they won't go with big on it as they could do they could do a lovely warm fuzzy remind you of her bought the BBC is thing and they just can't get round to it.

So I think they were under play The Anniversary when it comes to speech news content especially in radio.

I think we'll see more convergence across from so we've got GB news now simulcasting on Radio talk radio, but they're going to launch Talk TV so I think that be more overlap of content going on between those confident about this, but I think LBC could be doing more individual individual space, but maybe they might start simulcasting on the telly.

I don't know.

The wildcard will will be available in a TV channel like form, but I think that the obvious thing to say would be that the thing that's missing from Bower is a speech or a new space station and I think that they won't do it because of our community which has newstalk national Irish speech service been very musical rotating the UK and you're saying probably will stay that way.

I've got to put a punch outs.

I have an I say I lost the only thing for them to do no news is it's too expensive it's too complicated and they don't have the studio space.

Why would they bother so to come back to you next year to go to you both as Radiohead

Why is it never gone the other way and how they not been successful in doing audio in the same way that LBC talk seem to be doing pretty well in video close to launching radio station the number of times.

They were going to take over LBC am frequencies, but they were sold to Global and then they scrap that idea there was discussion with them to bring them some of the Multiplex beds and someone successful or didn't launch very close to all the time they skyrun the IRA new service so they do a lot audio when I should have quite a podcast at the moment as well, but it's never quite good in that position to to do that the folder for radio job in the day or my misremembering radio.

Are you seeing what TV doing? What do you mean you say what maybe I'll be seeing you doing you would think do we need to make Sky News multi-platform and I think GB news launch.

Speak them a little before it happened and I realised it wasn't very good or it wasn't as competitive as they may be thought it would be so you will always assume that they would think about it as an option and the other one.

I think again.

It might not it might have an issue my happening to next year.

I think we will see broadcasters changing a book us the news organisations in addition to changing their staff employment terms, so will stay in organisation get rid of London weighting and their move a load of people to being a permanent remote position and maybe you know let them claim back there travel to come into work meetings every so often maybe we'll see some more contracts that a standard 3 days a week in the office and the rest of it, but I think we'll we'll see a move away from London based salaries at for some rolls and a lot more kind of pearl.

Hi more permanent part-time at home being the standard in a contract prediction already people like Spotify an hour sort of agnostic with where you work at finchdean people bring that in my contacts, so I'm going to start by putting back on and prediction about about the BBC agreed with your licence fee freeze, but I think that there's also going to be this outpouring of love for answer.

Yeah, I actually think they are going to go big on the centenary because they will feel like opportunity to remind everybody how important the BBC is and and do big nostalgia.

Hot spring pulling thing in the jubilee year and I think what I think I'm actually quite a lot of content about how amazing the BBC years and how it's kept you entertained an educated and informed the last 100 years so I think the opposite I can go big on it and anything that quite hard on it and that is going to result.

In in a bit of a boring of love to start with and then an outcry which would result from the licensee being freeze and then having the big services and probably brand speak big cut and don't know more than likely be one of those petition.gov things that that will happen then quietly disappear and and we'll see some some of the big big services or more likely big brands disappear.

What was the BBC if they playing so tactically? What would they threatened to access to think what I children education is the thing that is the is the gold standard BBC anything that no one can every argues against and so there's a I don't know but I think they'll be some certainly will be lots of push into that space to to celebrate her and then and kind of slightly say this is at risk if you do not kind of continue to support us.

I think a couple of big.

Will have to go so obviously Peaky Blinders coming to an end and there's kind of question marks over whether or not line of duty is going to come back, but I think we'll see less dramas and an apple cider and more repeats as a result but I think there are kind of like Legacy brands that we see I don't want make a prediction as to which of the brands will go for two reasons one because I can't do that into anything different people working on those brands that kind of say but they're at risk.

I think it's literally difficult to know what's what's gonna happen, but I do think that we're going to see some stuff.

Go and it's going to make some the headlines based on what those are or what they services are Mr Tumbles head on a guillotine probably alright, but I think there's some other brands that I think we will need to be reviewed as they like savc before before going into consultation and then to be fine after all number two in parallel.

CB is going to have a gold Rush full disclosure, I'm currently chair of the committee, but I do think that this is the year for kids TV and the reason for that is I think the stream is MS Ford's.

I'm going to start pivoting quite hard from customer acquisition which is wearing a big dramas and and the kind of big celebs and and a Hollywood cutter coming in saying look you can now see that shows over here on extreme that's going to stop everything into a customer retention and my belief is that the best way to customer retention particularly your subscription services is to get your kids to you.

So I think we're going to see quite a lot of play in in kids TV and family viewing we've already seen that sign of being fire with Roald Dahl and Netflix like I mentioned earlier, but animation is going to be pretty massive.

I'm going to be quite hard and we're going to see a move away from kid content that is that is kind of purely based around merchandising and toys and Christmas etc into.

Like really powerful great programming for four children good thing are we going to see you when you will have the kids content fund I think I'll be mad if it doesn't get when you don't think so successful that I just think it's an easy win jacket an amazing job with her and let me some really brilliant breakout hits from her but I think that you're going to have to see a retreat again and audio content going to be Retreat of people Partners and broadcasters away from kids TV if you don't have some sort of intervention like the fund and so I will be shocked if it goes but I'm almost kind of think it's even further cos it's doing a great job well.

We'll probably here about that very soon, hopefully and thank you very much.
