Sky Payview: more confusion

Ofcom have denied reports from "Thomson Financial" and the "Mail on Sunday " over the weekend that Sky is set to win approval for it's subscription service that will replace the three free-to-air channels currently on Freeview.

Which, given that Ofcom has not even yet announced that it consulting on the situation seems that BSkyB is being a little premature unless Ofcom is as corruptible as has been suggested.

The reports suggest that BSkyB will be given approval if it sells "the new channels to rivals such as Setanta and Top Up TV the Mail on Sunday reported, without citing sources." This has to be complete gibberish as BskyB is not propsing any new channels, simply to charge for channels that it currently provides either for free or it dominant satellite subscription system.

Ofcom told UK Free TV that it is "awaiting further information from the parties Sky and NGW and once we have that information we will be able to set out timing and content of the consultation - which will need to take place before any decision is taken.

Ofcom state it is important to understand that "No decision has been made. Ofcom will be putting out the timing of the consultation once they have received that information."
