Freesat round up

A busy week for Freesat - and Freesat rumours

A busy week for Freesat - and Freesat rumours
published on UK Free TV

This week saw the introduction of the rest of the BBC and ITV regions to Freesat, and also has been a week filled with Freesat rumours. There was also a minor setback for those new ITV regions when ITV HD didn't work, and an explanation of BBC HD problems with the Eurovision Song Contest.

The upcoming Freesat PVR, which may or may not be called Freesat+ is officially something we are going to get an "update on shortly", but the Humax has had an official comment on Humax PVR Update Join Freesat.

"It is currently estimated that the product will be available suitably in advance of the Christmas 2008 season. The product will be a twin tuner satellite recorder with an appropriately large capacity hard disk, although the exact size has yet to be finalised"

Freesat assures ukfree.tv that the Humax box will be well in "advance of the Christmas 2008".

There are still a few missing components from Freesat. We are still waiting for five, Fiver and five US to start, but Channel 4 has moved all six regional versions of the channels (adverts only) to free-to-air on Astra 2D. (see Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D at 28.2E - LyngSat). With E4+1, More4+1 and Film4+1 being on the same transponders, it can only be a short time before these channels appear in the Freesat EPG.

Incidentally, Broadcast reports The Box will become 4Music on 15 August, it is not known if the channel will be on Freesat by that time. It will feature repeats of music-type programmes from other Channel 4 channels.

A list of the new channels that are to launch on Freesat shortly is awaiting final approval. This may or may not include those listed Ten More Channels To Join Freesat Join Freesat

Other positive Freesat signs include the BBC HD channel has new boss, and news that the start of the Olympics will see:

"The BBC will shortly be launching its Sport Multiscreen service on the freesat platform which will provide up to six different video options for the Olympics. This service will continue after the Olympics to provide interactive sport functionality for other sporting events."

Also, if you want to see which channels are on Freesat, the All free-to-watch channels - ukfree.tv has been updated to a clearer format.
