Freeview "transmitter" name changed

One confusing aspect of Freeview reception is being sorted out.

One of the most confusing aspects of digital terrestrial reception over the last decade - and it was ten years on 15th November 2008 - has been the "transmitter name" problem.

The design of the Freeview network allows the name of a transmitter to be provided as part of the digital transmission.

However, this is only done on a regional basis, so any relay transmitters carry the same name as the main one.

For example, Brighton's Whitehawk Hill transmitter transmits the name "Rowridge", 86km west-southwest of Brighton and Hove.

Reports have reached UK Free TV that transmitter parameter is being changed to the name of the region, so Pontop Pike now transmits "North East", for example.

This will help reduce the confusion when installing in some regions and nations.

You can still use Find a Freeview transmitter by frequency - - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 to find the actual transmitter you are using.
