Yes, Setanta Sports WERE mad

The Setanta Sports channels, including the Sports News one, close today. Once again, Freeview can't support a premium football channel.

Just over a decade ago, ONdigital launched the terrestrial digital system. But it was a bit expensive and you never quite knew if you could watch any particular channel.

So they changed the name to ITV Digital and launched the ITV Sport channel.

And it flopped and the Sport Channel closed and lost LOADS of money.

Out of the dust, however, was born Freeview.

Then came along Setanta (Is Setanta Sports mad?) in October 2006. And then they got some Premier League games to show, and all seemed well.

But it wasn't. They had paid too much and they cut corners so they couldn't keep their subscribers.

So... do you think ESPN will want to do a Freeview channel?

Setanta will continue to broadcast in Ireland.
