Lena: It appears that the Aldeburgh transmitter was off the air from approximately 18:00 to midnight on Saturday, possibly owing to a power cut to the site.

If you performed a retune during that period then you will have untuned it which means you will need to retune. If you did nothing then it would have restored itself when the transmitter was turned on again.

Tony: Provided that your old aerial is still in satisfactory condition then it can be used for Freeview reception, although more detailed info with regards to your reception possibilities could have been given if you had cared to indicate your location, this in the form of a post code.

Hi, I keep losing BBC and ITV channels. All the sky channels are ok. No picture or sound standard message "Your sky+HD box isn't getting a satellite signal. Your recordings in the planner and on demand service may still be available" and they are. All channels are available in the other room! Tried the recommended remedy of switching off and leaving for 4 mins. It has worked a couple of times, but only for a limited period of time.

Phil:

it sounds like you have an issue with the tuner inside your HD box.

If you move the box to the other room to check if the problem still existings this will give you the answer.

If your box still doesn't work correctly then it is in need of replacement.

regards

Why does the frequency band 21 appear when the box is retuned, when before Christmas, there were five bands and dozens more channels? Why also were there no frequencies available for the last week? Stockport - Winter Hill. (52.2852,-1.5201)

My analogue television has a dvd digital tuner connected to it and after being on about 20 minutes the picture becomes snowy.
Do you think this may be caused by a fault in the dvd box?

Mr Ansell: A snowy pictures suggests that you have the digital tuner coupled into the analogue TV's aerial socket using an RF modulator facility as the TV does not have a scart socket? "if" this applies you should check that the coax jumper cable is not defective and especially where the coax joins into the end plugs, plus also check that your TV's AFC (auto frequency control) is not disabled, because a snowy picture is a symptom of the RF signal between the two devices being on the weak side.

Put in another way, if the jumper cable is OK then the RF modulator is defective.

I have an old analogue tv which was attached to a HUMAX PVR and then a Pioneer DVR/DVDR - Pioneer packed up after about 10 years' service and I have managed to find a Toshiba RDXV60KB but this has 2 freeviwe tuners, as the signal comes into the Humax I don't want to use the tuners and have the ariel connected to Humax first then Toshiba. Result is when I try to set up Toshiba it tries to search for signal and turns itself off after a couple of minutes.
I know the best thing is just to ditch the Humax BUT a) I still have programmes on the hard drive I want to watch and a couple I want to put onto DVD and b) I think the series linkage on the Humax although poor compared to my late lamented TiVo is likely to be better than on the Toshiba. Can anyone advise me how I might set the three pieces of hardware up to make this work please as plugging in the Toshiba exactly as the Pioneer was doesn't work presumably because of the tuning issue. Thanks.

Chris - I've just been looking at a PDF of the RDXV60KB and it seems to have the usual 'daisy-chain' setup of antenna in and out. If your Humax is like both of mine, it too will allow daisy chaining of your antenna wiring so that's not a problem. What is of course is getting the video and sound into your old analogue TV. How many SCARTS does it have? Sometimes they can daisy chain through devices. I don't do that myself but I think my Panasonic DVD/hard drive recorder can do that when in standby.
