Digital switch-over problems

There are now a number of issues related to digital switchover (DSO) in the UK.

The Sutton Coldfield transmitter that serves Birmingham is having all the current analogue and digital services moved to a second temporary mast. This work was due to be completed last month, but the bad weather has not allowed the "air work" to be completed quickly.

With the power level reported to be about an eighth of normal, this has caused many people reception problems in second largest city in England.

Despite being close to the first digital switch-over in Whitehaven, it seems that people using the Bleach Green transmitter are unable to scan for Freeview services. However, they do work if the viewer manually tunes their box toC53, C57 and C60. "Digital UK says they are now working with Ofcom and the broadcasters to fix the problem".

Down in Cornwall, the Redruth transmitter is stuck in limbo. Cornish people can now watch digital TV from the transmitter and relays, but the commerical multiplexes are on the old power levels and old frequencies until 30 September 2009.

It would appear that the 30 September Freeview retune will be an important date nationwide.

steve: Having knowledge of your location (post code) would be of assistance to enable signal checking, but what is the model number of the TV or box being used?

I woke up this morning - & as usual tried to put Sky News on - only to find that it no longer even appeared in my digital menu!
I'm furious.
This is the only channel I watch in the bedroom and to not even have that is unbelievable and v. upsetting!
Can anybody please offer any words of wisdom?

I have been re tuning to digital in Yorkshire - the Emley moor transmitter. I cannot get any ITV or C4 stations. I rang Digital UK and they said that my TV (Tevion) was not on their list to help me, but to be fair, the lady tried to direct me through manual re tuning using a generic guide. This was unsuccessful, so she gave me some channel numbers to input, and said that I should contact Tevion to get them to guide me through. I did this, and they said that they would not help because, as the TV was purchased in 2007, it was out of warranty. I rang Digital UK back and they said that it makes no difference if the TV is in warranty or not, they should help me. I rang Tevion again and told them this. They replied that Digital UK should not have said this, and that they would not help me. I rang Digital UK and they said that Tevion should help me. It goes on and on and on...
We were told in the months leading up to the switchover that it would be a simple process, and it has proved to be anything but. I feel for all the older people who have sets which are digital ready, but out of warranty.
Did the government, or the BBC (who say that their job is to help facilitate the switchover) not check with all the TV manufacturers any potential problems? What do Aldi (Tevion stockists) have to say? Do they bear any responsibility?
Can OFCOM help? Why should I pay my licence if I don't get the full range of channels?

Hi
We have a hannspree lcd tv and a humax recorder/freeview box. Since the digital changeover our tv now has an annoying blue box displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen - it is about 4 inches by 3 inches. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so how do you solve it.
Many thanks.
