Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels
published on UK Free TV

Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.

Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.

This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.

Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

This is the end of daytime tv really. Channel 1 was a haven from the endless shite thats broadcasts in the daytime. It wasnt that great but at least people watched it. This is nothing more then an attack on people who dont want to pay for sky. As the person above pointed out, we pay our tv license, sky has no right to start trying to monopolise TV This is absolutly disgusting. This does not encourage me to purchace sky products.

neo: And that will effect Sky in what way? The TV Licence as I am sure you know pays ONLY for BBC services, which you get in their entirety.

Its the principle of it and lets not mess about, we pay for ALL fre channels not just teh beeb. If it was only BBC then many of us would gladly just not watch BBC channels.

neo: No, the Licence Fee pays ONLY for BBC service. All the other channels are funded by the advertisers who place their promotional shorts between and during the breaks in the programmes.

Braintist:

Sorry - not true -= whilst the lions share of the license fee goes to the BBC, all broadcasters receive a cut, including Sky. This means that they have some responsibility to license fee payers as well as to their subscribers.

To be honest, though, the way they have behaved, I would never subscribe to any provider, now. I can get by without sitting in front of the goggle box during all my waking hours, and restricting or removing those very few programs that I do enjoy is simply a disincentive to purchase their services.

Roken: I'm not wrong. Sky don't get any of the TV Licence, not a single penny.

Really annoyed with Channel One having just disappeared off the airwaves.

I've been watching this for a while and there has been NO information that this was going to happen. They were giving loads of notice that its name would change from Virgin to Channel One but nothing about this latest wheeze.

I wanted to see the last episode of Voyager and more of Next Generation.

And I can't seem to get Sky (freeview) channel at all!

Really furious.

briantish i am aware of the dishonesty of the system, but the letter of teh law says you pay for "a reciever" and doesnt actually specify any provider or content. If we do not protest by refusing to pay, what other way can we voice our discontent? Money talks and nother else matters in this world. We cause either accept the fact that big money is buying out our tv channels or we can make a fuss.
