Switchover process - clarification of details
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV It was apparent from some recent comments that the information that was being displayed about the actual digital switchover process on some pages was somewhat cryptic.
So, I have introduced a small number of changes, as seen on this example:
I have added the word "analogue" to each of the analogue services, and I have removed the strikethrough notation for the channel closure.
I have clarified the digital services by adding in the word "multiplex" for each.
I have also corrected the display of the closing of the Multiplex 1 service on the first digital switchover date, when this is replaced by the BBCA multiplex.
In addition I have enhanced the Freeview HD multiplex details.

Winchester
I am in Winchester, and have had only analogue reception of ITV1, and no reception of ITV2 and several other digital channels since 8th Feb. Will these channels return at the next retuning date, or will I be forced to buy some additional equipment to receive them?

Linda: Is your aerial pointing north or south?
I guess that it is likely to be north, in which case you are receiving from Hannington. On 8th February the first stage of Hannington's switchover completed. This meant that BBC Two on analogue was switched off and replaced with BBC standard definition digital channels.
At the present time you should be able to receiver BBC One, ITV and Channel 4 on analogue, not sure about Channel 5 analogue at your location. You should also get BBC channels on Freeview and these are as they will be when switchover has completed. If you cannot get any of these, then there is perhaps need for concern.
What equipment do you have (makes and models please)?
Can you get BBC One, BBC Two and BBC News on digital?

Put in a new tv into sheltered accomodationin south hams Basingstoke. retuned and obtained all freeview stations perfectly but was unable to get BBC1-2

Terry Cox: At around 6 miles from the transmitter your receiver could be suffering from too high a signal level at its input. See here:

The missing programme channels are on channel 45, so try manually tuning to it. See if you get any indication (on the manual tuning screen) as to whether there is any signal there. If it's there but low, this could be due to there being too much signal - the TV is "blinded" by the bright signal. Try removing the aerial lead, holding the plug close (a cm or two) in an attempt to feed less signal into the TV (whilst on channel 45). It might take five or ten seconds to respond, but the strength might show an increase. If you do get the BBC channels, then store them. You might find that plugging the aerial back in might stop them working, but don't retune as it's not a tuning issue.
Hannington has completed stage one of switchover which means that the BBC multiplex (the one you're missing) is at full power. On Wednesday the rest will follow.
If it is a comunal aerial system and it can be demonstrated that it is too high a level, then it is likely to be your landlord's responsibility.

Terry Cox: When manually tuning, ensure that you're manually tuning for the digital (Freeview) bit rather than the analogue one (if the TV picks up analogue).

Colin (farnborough ) still getting a signal strength of 42% now and now cannot receive channel 31 ( 5US ) all my tv's have built in freeview can only receive 5US on one tv upstairs.Have done total reset on all tv's still no luck. Please note we have 2 amps one on the ariel mast one on the ariel cable. do you think i may have too much amp? It was all fitted by an ariel guy

colin watts: A signal strength prediction check using a test code of GU14 7SQ (Asda Westmead) indicates that on the 22nd of this month you should be able to receive (only) the PSB muxes from Hannington, then on April 4th the three commercial muxes joining in but only with a variable reception status.
This being the case I don't think that its an over amplification problem you are suffering from but more one of residing in a difficult area for reception.
If you provide a post code then a more accurate assessment can be given, although if you are not located that far away from the premises mentioned it doesn't look very promising, as although Crystal Palace does also come into the equation on April 18th its in a similar fashion to Hannington, that of with the commercial muxes being variable.
Although there are obviously small areas where pockets of good reception can be obtained within what's generally considered as a bad area for reception, but indications for your location suggests that Freesat is by far the best bet.

Has the time of day for these been set yet?
There seems to be so much information available but haven't managed to fully clarify the situation. Or am I jumping the gun!!
