Channel 4-seven is now in the Freeview EPG in switched-over areas

The placeholder for Channel 4's new catch-up channel, 4-seven is now on the ArqB/COM6 multiplex showing up as channel 47. It does not appear in areas where switchover happens later in the year.

If you do a rescan for channels on your Freeview set-top box or television, you may now find a new channel at position 47 called "Channel 4-seven".

However, this will be only the case if you use on of the main Freeview transmitters that have already gone though digital switchover. So, those in London will not see the channel appear until the 18th April.

This new channel from the Channel 4 Corporation (a not-for-profit public broadcaster) will be something new - for a repeats channel.

Rather than showing the whole of a channel an hour later (as Channel 4+1 does), this new channel will schedule only the top shows from Channel 4 in their original timeslots for the week following their original broadcast on the main channel.

The channel will also appear on Freesat (probably at 127) and other platforms.

i re tuned my freeview tv (freeview built in)a week ago to receive the new channel 4seven(channel 4 over 7 days). Since doing so my BBC channels keep breaking up and the signal for my BBC channels are now on only a quarter strength and sometimes half strength (ch50) My BBC channels never used to brake up & always used to be full strength! I am tuned to whitehawk hill which is the correct transmitter for where i live. All my channels have always received full strength until re tuning to receive channel 4seven & now most of the time I cant watch any BBC channel without it breaking up. Please can someone advise me on how to sort this out as I have now re tuned my tv several times & it has made no difference? thank you.

lindsey: In your general area the signals from Rowridge come in quite strong. Bring up the signal strength screen whilst on BBC One and see if it is tuned to C24 for Rowridge or C60 for Whitehawk. There is perhaps an outside chance that it could be on C50 which is Newhaven and is a little off-beam from Whitehawk from your location.

If it is tuned to Rowridge, then the solution is simple; all of Rowridge's channels are low frequency and Whitehawk's are high, so have the aerial lead unplugged for the first 30% of the scan (or until it gets past C35 if it gives channel numbers as it scans them). There is a big gap between the two, so there is a big margin.

If it is tuned to Newhaven, then that will be more tricky. If the receiver has manual tuning, then I would keep the aerial out for a bit longer to miss out Newhaven, knowing that some of Whitehawk's will need manually adding. In this case, keep the aerial out to 61%. Then manually tune Whitehawk's C48 which carries Yesterday, 4seven and others. HD services are on C51 and ITV1, C4 etc are on C53.

Maurice Hayward: Can you receive Yesterday (12) or ITV4 (24) on your Sony DVD recorder as these are on the same mux transmitter channel as EPG 47.

If though the EPG's mentioned are not working either then you should make sure that your Sony is not suffering from receiving an excessively high level of signal as you are located at under 2 miles away from the station, Sony tuners not being quite so capable of coping with this type of situation in the same way as Panasonic's can.

Thanks for getting back to me...Both these EPGs are working perfectly ON THE RECORDER as are all of the other channels.....ALL EXCEPT CHANNEL 47.
I Receive an excellent picture on my tv on all channels including channel 47..but cant record channel 47.
I have 3 other old tvs using a digi box...all receive channel 47...and one of them has a digibox with built in recorder which DOES record the channel.....But why is it that only channel 47 wont appear on the tv guide on my panasonic tv and Sony recorder ????

Maurice Hayward: Could you please clarify on a point that I am a bit confused about.

You have stated - >> I Receive an excellent picture on my tv on all channels including channel 47..but cant record channel 47 << - then on the latter part of your posting - >> But why is it that only channel 47 wont appear on the tv guide on my panasonic tv and Sony recorder ?? <<

Are you simply referring to the fact of when you are viewing the Sony's output on your Panasonic TV?

However, if that is what you are meaning then it strongly suggests that your Sony's tuner is defective as far as it responding to that EPG channel, something not exactly unheard of although it could be any EPG channel involved, Philips DVD Freeview recorders of a few years old having suffered from the same problem, although in their case it was EPG 1(BBC) and caused by a tuner defect, the problem vanishing when the offending item was replaced.

Thanks again for responding to my problem.

To Clarify ....Channel 47 picture and epg is fine on Panasonic TV.
however I cant get a picture for Channel 47 on the sony recorder....and although the epg shows channel 47 on the list of channels...no programmes are shown.
As stated all other channels on recorder are fine...it is only channel 47 that has no picture or epg programmes showing.

Maurice Hayward: Thanks for the clarification on that issue, however it still suggests to me that the Sony's tuner is defective as although 47 might well be indicated that's only as far as the mux transmitters EPG list of the programme channel numbers contained on it is concerned, and not that the tuner has picked up the programme data associated with the number, which of course it hasn't!

Knowledge of the Sony model involved would have been of assistance, and although I appreciate that you have previously mentioned that you updated both devices that can be open to interpretation, and so have you tried carrying out a complete "as out of the box factory reset" on the device before having auto-tuned? as sometimes that can help rectify any glitches that may have occurred during the initial set up procedures.

Thanks again.....I will try a factory re set and if that doesnt do it I will have to accept that the tuner may be defective.

Once again I am grateful for your advice.
