You can get the following Freeview channels on with an ex-contract digital satellite receiver (once it is connected). Items marked with a star require either a Freesat from Sky (fSfS) card, or a expired Sky subscription card to view.

stephen: Purely on the technical sense yes! although I would not advise attempting this until after about 3 weeks or so has lapsed after your brother has taken out a multiroom subscription, as what you are suggesting is a violation of your brothers contract with Sky and should this be found out may have repercussions in the financial sense for your brother.

jj: There is nothing to stop you doing what you suggest as the box will receive signals exactly as when located in your bedroom.

Also as the multiroom box is not connected to a phone line then that's a plus point, although even if it was its quite permissible for a box to be unpowered for a week or so if a person is on holiday etc, as people generally turn off power to everything except their freezer.

By the way Sky would not know where any box is being used if its not connected to a phone line, as the phone line is the only form of communication between the box and Sky.

All that said on the assumption that you have a suitable dish installed at the caravan.

poppy: If you are meaning to use the coax lead that would normally be used into the Sky boxes LNB input then no! as Freeview is purely a terrestrial based system via a normal aerial.

If though you are not meaning that then please clarify.

Hi,
I'm thinking of cancelling Sky. If I did would I still be able to receive Horse & Country channel(free) and would I still have the live pause/record feature? I have a modern Samsung TV. If not then could you please advise what would you suggest?

Are there any boxes or devices around that you can connect to your computer in order to receive net TV. Especially European Sports Channels?
