Petra : you need a dish pointing at 19°E or at 5°W to receive French TNT channels by satellite. You need a TNT-box for whichever satellite you prefer, which should be authorised on purchase to an address in France. The communal dish just might "stretch" to receiving both 28°E for Sky/FreeSat AND 19°E with a twin-LNB arrangement, but only a competent specialist could advise on this. IF technically possible and IF you can justify your need (eg native tongue, MFL teacher), the landlord might have to allow it. French friends, institutions or language teachers might be able to advise on how to proceed. If you have a clear view to the 19°E or 5°W satellite positions, it would be possible to set up a temporary dish to watch specific programmes, but it would probably only work through an open window or a balcony, and would need to be aligned each time. Not ideal, but if there is no other option, worth a thought. If you have a fast broadband connection, you can watch some programming online.

Hi. The Italian channels on my parents tv disappeared yesterday but the other non- Italian channels still appear to be there. What might have caused this? They have been receding Italian channels without any problem via and their dish for ages. Thanks for your help.

Pauline, prime-time broadcasts are no longer always free-to-view. You need a Tivu box registered to their codice fiscal in Italy to watch subscription-free as before. See earlier posts on this site for more details.

Hi there,
I have just moved into a block of flats. I used to live in a ground floor flat and had my own dish and tv sat box and had all my italian channels.
Now living in a block of flats at the first floor means that there are rules and very strict regulations and it looks like we might not be able to put our dish out.
There is a big dish outside and they said that's for SKY. What do you think we can do? I can't believe i'm not going to be able to watch italian tv anymore.
Thanks for your help.
Claudia

Claudia, it doesn't look good. I think such issues should come under human rights. Within the EU, we should all have an entitlement to all EU culture. If, as your name suggests, you have Italian roots, you just might have an even stronger case. But that might be more theoretical than practical. If you get a good broadband download speed, you should be able to find some Italian TV online. If you can "see" 13°E from a window, you could point a dish through an open window when the weather permits. Not ideal, but maybe possible.
Note the tivu requirements in other postings here. I wish you well.

Hi,

I have a Tivusat box that has been great up to now. But for the last 4 months I can't receive any Canale 5, Rete 4 and Italia 1. It's as if they just dissapeared. Does anyone know how I can get them back? I have tried rescanning but they don't come back.

Nico, hopefully somebody with a tivu box in the UK can help. You will almost certainly find hints on Italian blogs, but you might need to persevere in searching to find relevant and reliable information. There may be a time limit on the subscription registered to your codice fiscale. In this case you would need to re-register and obtain a new card. You could try removing and re-inserting your current card, resetting to factory default with the card, or without it before re-inserting it. If in doubt, do a thorough search of Italian websites first.

Q about French & Italian viewing in UK:

I currently have a receiver & TNT card allowing me to receive all French channels on Alpha 19E. If I add another LNB to my 80cm dish aligned on Hotbird 13E, will I be able to receive Italian channels?
I know I will need a TIVU card (which I can buy separately )but will it work in the standard Via access CAM which is built in to my TNT receiver?

The safer option would be to obtain a Tivureceiver registered to a codice fiscale in Italy. However, many broadcasts are still free-to-view on 13°E. Remember, we are all in the European Union which garantees free movement of goods and services - unless capitalist and mafia-suspect shareholder profits determine otherwise...

I live in a block of flats in central London and I've been asked by the coucil to remove the dish from my balcony. I tried to connect to the communal dish on the roof (they say, it is orientated Hotbird 13 E) but I cannot see anything. Could it be related to the LBN angled differently from my needs (italian channels)? Most of the other tennants are of arab language and don't seem to have problems in catching their channels. Please, advise.
