No. You cannot receive signals from UK Freeview transmitters abroad. You box will be able to receive local "DVB-T" transmittions, if there are any.

You can use satellite equipment pointing at the Astra 2D satellite from some European countries however to get around 100 UK free-to-air channels.

OK. Thank you Mike for the explanation.
What about 'Freesat Box'? Is it any good for Bulgaria, or not?

Bontcho:

Freesat uses the Astra satellites for the programme content and none of those satellites covers Bulgaria. The Eutelsat 28A satellite is only used to provide the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) information but not the programmes. A website at Satellite for caravans. (Satellite TV at home and abroad) states " freesat does indeed use the Eutelsat 28A satellite but only to carry the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) and the operational software. All the TV channels will continue to come from whichever satellite they currently use, one of the 2 new satellites the Astra 2E and 2F".

So there is no way to get FreeSat in Bulgaria I'm afraid.

The only possibility to get UK programmes would seem to be via the Internet - but you need a good connection that is fairly fast (at least 5Mbps but faster would be better with less 'buffering') and I don't know what sort of internet coverage you have in Bulgaria.

I have just bought a flat in the Alps in France and would like to install a TV so that we can access UK channels. Friends in the same village have taken their UK TV with free view over and it works perfectly, with access to the UK TV channels. I am about to buy a TV in the UK to take over with built in free view in the hope that it will just work, like theirs. This contradicts the info on this site, please can you help me?

Jane:
Your friends are not using Freeview! That is transmitted from ground-based stations all within the UK and the signals barely reach much beyond Calais! They could perhaps be using Freesat or possibly Sky, with a potential problem over obtaining a legal viewing card as they are restricted to UK addresses only. There are some channels available via the internet and there are the 'catch up' services such as the BBC iPlayer, etc.
You would be best asking your friends exactly what equipment they use and what British TV services they have available.

Hi -I currently live in Bratislava, Slovakia and bought back a freesat receiver from the UK to see if it would work on my 60" dish in SK... At present it is not picking up anything however I believe I will need to redirect the angle as the footprint of the satellites indicate that they do span over Bratislava. Before attempting this can you let me know if my assumptions are correct to pick up freesat in Bratislava? Thanks

Hi, I have just moved to Portugal and have taken a cable TV subscription that supplies the signal to my TV via a co-axial cable. I would like to have some way of time shifting the program's I receive by recording them when I am out. I have not been able to find a recorder in the local shops. Are they available? I have several old VHS video recorders and a couple of old Sky boxes in the UK. Would they work in Portugal?
Thanks Rob

Hi,
Can I receive any freeview tv in India or via freesat?
I have a UK tv in India with freeview built in but I have not tried to use this.
The tv is connect to an Indian satellite service (Dish TV) so can I use the existing dish to connect to the freeview satellite?

Chandra:

The simple answer to both questions is No!

Freeview is only transmitted from ground-based stations within the UK and the signals barely reach northern France and no further, so reception in India is completely out of the question - far too far away and no 'line of sight' from transmitter to receiving aerial.

The 'footprint' of European satellites, as used for Sky and Freesat, do not cover India at all, so again no way of receiving the signals. Note that Freeview is not transmitted on any satellite, only on the above mentioned ground based transmitting stations.

The only possibility is if you have access to the internet at a fast enough speed to find a few of the services that are provided on-line, but that is certainly not all of them.
