To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

PBS America reception is flaky in south Sheffield on 91 / Ch 48 from Emley Moor. Is that an inevitable consequence of the introduction of 5G?

Jon Scaife:

The short answer is No, it's nothing to do with 5G. There are no 5G transmissions in the 700MHz band (those just cleared next to the frequencies for TV channels). The frequencies haven't even been auctioned yet. The only 5G is on much higher frequencies (~3.4GHZ) which is currently only used in some central urban conurbations.

PBS America is on the ArqB/COM6 multiplex. See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are on which multiplex. If this is a reception issue then you should have identical problems with other channels on the multiplex.

How long have you been having the problem? Reception of any multiplex can be affected by many factors, location being one of them. We really need a full postcode to look at your predicted reception.
If you have a fault on your installation, that can appear to affect reception of one multiplex but not others!

Anthony W Peerless:

My sincere apologies for missing your response to my previous reply to you a few weeks ago. If you happen to read here again, here is a bit of additional information which may help.

C35 is the Local Multiplex. As mentioned previously, see the channels carried on each multiplex. The missing channels above 105 (esp.106/107 BBC4 HD and BBC News HD) and the others, are on that (generally) weaker signal COM7 on C55.

Have a look in the tuning section of one of your other sets that is receiving C55 COM7 and make a note of the Signal Strength & Quality (or BIT Errors - BER) for C55 and compare it to the BBCB HD multiplex on C30. If you post the figures, I might be able to post some constructive comment.

Loft aerials can also affect the reception of individual multiplexes due to a variety of this that can disrupt signals, metal objects in particular - lead flashing, flue pipes, also water tanks, solar panels, partition walls and the like. Sometimes a minor adjustment to aerial position can improve things (or make them worse!). The bearing of Crystal Palace at your location is 35 degrees (about half way between NNE and NE) and according to the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker you ought to get good reception of COM7 (but that is with an external aerial).

I'll try not to miss any reply if you happen to make one.

Hi, I have just purchased a new Humax Aura Freeview Recorder. The problem I have is that some of the channel are pixelating. the pixelating is happening mainly in the evenings and on the more obscure channels,ie Dave, Quest, Smithsonian, Sky Arts etc.I have spoken to Humax about the problem and they say the quality of signal I am getting is too high, but I check the signal quality when I am getting the problem and the quality strength has dropped to around 50%, when I am not getting pixelation signal strength and quality are around 90 and 95%. I have also had the aerial checked by an engineer and he said it was good.
Regards,
Brian Corder.

Sarah Mckinney: You haven't said where you are located (please provide a full postcode) but unless the transmitter serviing your area has a fault or maintenance work taking place, you should be able to just connect your new TV to an aerial and let it tune automatically. As well as your location, are connecting the TV to a rooftop or loft aerial, or are you using a small indoor set top aerial?

Sarah Mckinney: England covers a massive area, but from checking your postcode you are predicted to get a good signal from the Sudbury transmitter (approximately 75km North from you) as well as weaker signals from various other transmitters. You mention having a booster in the loft, so one thing to check is that the booster is powered on, otherwise you won't get any signal through it at all. Many boosters use a power supply which is connected to the aerial cable behind the TV, so was there a power adaptor connected to the aerial cable going in to the back of your previous TV?

Sarah Mckinney:

Did you have a TV set connected previously? If so, which TV region were you getting?
Which way is your aerial pointing?

If more or less due N as mentioned by StevensOnln1, there are two Anglia region transmitters you might receive, one is stronger than the other.
If your aerial is pointing fractionally S of due W, there is certainly one, but maybe two transmitters you may get for the Meridian region (again one is stronger than the other, but reception of some multiplexes may be variable).
If your aerial is pointing fractionally N of due W, you may be getting the London region, reception of most multiplexes will be variable.

Indeed if your aerial points generally W, all those transmitters in that general direction may be receivable as they'll be within the "beamwidth" of your aerial, you may have to resort to manual tuning to get the region/signals you want reliably BUT that's only once you are getting some signals from your booster as explained by StevensOnln1.

There's one other possibility, one other Meridian transmitter if your aerial points about halfway between due E and SE, but some signals are likely to be variable or poor/zero.
