To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

it loses all the channels on 46, 42 and 45.

Re-scanning works fine, but we can't get it to remember them after a power-off (which we've always done overnight). We've tried adding manually, and we've tried clearing the list before re-scanning.

All help appreciated; failing that, recommendations for a moderately-priced HD digibox please! ;-).

My mum got a message on her tv saying there was a channel update, and to retune the tv press ok,. After automatic retune she has now lost a lot of channels and a few have been replaced by French channels, we've tried both automatic and manual tuning with no luck. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sophie harris: There have been a number of posts from viewers in the South of England who have experienced drop outs in reception or who have lost channels after retuning. This is due to the current weather conditions, resulting in French transmissions travelling further than normal. When they are on the same frequency as the English signals the strongest signal at the time of the retune wins! Wait for the conditions to change resulting in the return of the required signals then retune to restore reception of the lost channels.

Anyone want to buy 5 signal boosters. I purchased them because despite all the best advice on here it was the only way to maintain the ITV channels during a year up to the change over.

Touching a very large piece of wood we know have strong signals on all our aerials. I do think the change over could have been handled much better it is clear that a vast sum of money has been spent by consumers unnecessarily.

Getting significant quality issues on ITV and C4 over the past few days - even occasional issues on BBC1. Full factory reset and retunes and all other hygiene checks and still seeing very low quality readings. Rowridge should be the transmitter I believe - any ideas on what might be causing this. Should add that the PVR has been fine for 3 years and the whole aerial system replaced and tested 12 months ago. Definately a recent issue.

Steve E: Over the last few days, the weather conditions have been right for signals to travel a lot further than normal. That's probably the most likely explanation.

Rowridge Mux 1 and 2 are now co-channel with Crystal Palace Mux A and Mux C; a digital channel - even at lower power - does more damage to another digital channel than an analogue channel does. Or, given your aerial points roughly due south, it could be interference from France.

At switchover, Rowridge will be much more powerful so this should not happen as often; if it still does, you could consider changing the aerial to vertical polarization - all services will transmit on VP from 18 April 2012, and the commercial multiplexes will be more powerful on VP than on horizontal polarization.

Lauren: Try retuning without an aerial in. You should then get a blank EPG. Turn of TV put back aerial and retune again? I had a Bush freeview box and it had great problems finding the correct signal so I had to change. Hope this helps. Glenn
