The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

For the past 3 - 4 weeks I cannot watch any HD channels, very blocky. i live in B;ackburn and my transmitter is winterhill. i have retuned youview box, checked cables etc. I have been told there is engineering work going on. but how long does it take? Getting really frustrated.

T.Smith-Rose: If, as indications would suggest, you are connected into a communal aerial system? then there little you can do that would help to alleviate the problem, and which I feel is (or might) be caused by reasons other than that connected with the engineering work being carried out at Winter Hill, as any power reductions found to be necessary is unlikely to be noticed by viewers located at only 8 miles away from the station, especially so if line-of-sight with the mast. (although in your case "just")

Its also noticed that the signal path from the transmitter has to pass through some rather tall trees at the rear of the building, tree leaves (especially if wet) being notorious for causing picture glitching, this also causing exacerbating potential problems caused by reception of a weaker signal.

Have you as yet ascertained if other residents are also experiencing problems with the reception of HD channels?

The other thing I wondered about being, viewing from Yates Fold, the the communal aerials mounted on the gable ends of the two apartment blocks appear to be pointing in slightly different directions, the one on the right block seemingly out of alignment (possibly blown) for reception from Winter Hill, has this been corrected in recent times?

Dave Buck:

Please give your post code, or that of a nearby public building, so we contributors can see which transmitter your should be using. That will help determine if there are any issues at present. The provision of a post code will allow the display of the details of your recpetion conditions, much like those for where I live that will appear below this post.

jb38: Most of the people in our block are having the same problem, one elderly guy is thinking about getting his own independent aerial. An engineer has been out and he seems to think that there is a problem in one of the upper flats (a booster box i think). So I think it's a case of wait and see, which seems to be the norm on this estate. Thanks.

T.Smith-Rose: Re: your update on the problem, I suspected that this might be the case. However, the point about all this is being, that if the residents of the (or any) apartment block are indeed connected into a communal aerial system, then the responsibility for rectifying any defects that may occur on same rests "entirely" with the landlord / letting agents, or whoever is responsible for maintenance of the facilities provided in the property, likewise no-one should have to pay anything to have the problem rectified.

However, as Winter Hill is still indicating a "possible weak signal", then it really "is" a case of "wait and see", although I will be keeping my eye on the situation.

Still puzzled about the aerials (previously referred to) facing at slightly different angles to each other, (unless corrected by now) as that's most unusual!

No signal being received by Freeview digibox since Friday (30/10/15) evening. Other residents in communal block of flats have stated same issue, however SKY users not affected. Tried new digibox and checked all cables but still not receiving channels. Located in Barnet, North London (EN5 5DA)
