The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

paul reynolds: If you have a power cut, then nothing should work, including your TV. If you have a booster in the roof, and power has been restored, then possibly its failed. If you don't, then logically, there is no connection between the power cut and your loss of signal, since, as you point out, the Hannington transmitter seems to be working fine (ask a neighbour to check).

Almost certainly you have a problem with your aerial system. It might be as simple as a broken cable in the roof, but if the transmitter is fine, how can it be anything else?

You can go up yourself, or pay someone 55 quid, but it sounds like the problem is somewhere in the loft.

We live in Yarnton north of Oxford and for several days Freeview has been unavailable on our TV. On trying to update we get the message to check our aerial but I don't think there is anything wrong with the aerial. Are there any problems with our local transmitter which I think is Beckley.

Peter Hewis:

If you give a full post code that will enable you, and us, to determine which is the best transmitter for your location.

I'm not aware of there being any problems with the main Oxford transmitter at present.

Hi, we have never had any problems with Freeview signal, however a couple of weeks ago it went off about 8pm and displayed " no signal " on the screen. The morning after it was back as good as ever! - this is now a regular occurrence, off in the evening and back on the next morning. Any ideas would be welcome, I presume that an aerial or cable problem would show all the time?

Jeff Kitchen:

It would be very helpful if you would give a post code, or one of a very nearby shop, etc. Reason being that there are over 1000 transmitters in use currently and your location in relation to the preferred transmitter being important in case there are any obstructions affecting the signal.

Problems with cables and connectors do not show the same all the time but can vary with weather and temperature conditions.

denis: Check your system - your very close to Crystal Palace, so its not lack of signal, probably a break in a cable or something.

I have the same problem with my Freeview.

ba12 9qp has not had anything but no signal for nearly 2 weeks on Freeview. i can only watch TV through my mobile connection, which is a pain.

i tried retuning a few times even with antenna cable unplugged to see if this solved problem, but nothing. any advice before i go crazy with boredom

Samantha: The Mendip transmitter is presently listed on the engineering page with the status of "possible weak signal", this being the most likely reason for your problem.

However, if you have been unable to receive Freeview for nearly two weeks now, then your aerial system requires checking-out, as transmitters are never down for any more than a few hours in any one day.
