Why does Movies for Men get taken of Freevieu in the Manchester area only to return days later?

Colin Davies: I would suggest that it doesn't and that it's likely that your reception is marginal for this channel.

The power of the signal isn't as great as the others, plus it is directional towards Manchester. Thus, there some users of Winter Hill who won't ever receive it and some who will receive it at a strength which is hovering around the lower threshold point at which their receiver can't resolve a picture (and may show "no signal" or similar.

Same with Movies 4 Men - in Stockport. Very irritating that it's on then off. Nothing to do with 4g then?

Hello,
I was able to receive movies4men on Freeview until a few months ago but now ,all I get is a "signal lost" message on the T.V.
The channels are on 800-801 and I live in the Poynton area.
I have read this may be because of blocking by the 4G network.
Could you please help ?
Thanks

Ian Edge: The signal which carries Movies4Men is broadcast from Winter Hill directionally towards Manchester. It is also transmitted on much lower power than the other channels.

I would definitely suggest that it isn't an issue caused by 4G signals operating in the 800MHz band.

The signal is probably bordering being just strong enough for your TV to resolve a picture. Perhaps it has dipped a little (as strengths vary a bit due to atmospheric conditions).

If you have retuned then its proper logical channel number (LCN), which it may have taken up, is 51. If, for whatever reason, the standard LCN isn't taken up, then it will, as you found, be placed in the 800s (could be anywhere).

If you don't have it stored on your TV, because you've retuned, then go to the manual tune screen and tune to C57 (762MHz).

Dave Lindsay:
thanks for the gen. Dave .
I'll try a re-tune on the strength of your very helpful information, though it looks like I'll need a new aerial with more gain as my T.V. has not stored this channel but my Philips PVR 8520 has but with a very weak signal strength.
I think it best to do a re-tune with the aerial plugged out, then another with it plugged back in again to reset the T.V.

Thanks and Best Rgds, Ian.

Ian Edge: Try connecting the aerial directly to the TV and see if it picks it up.

If this has only just happened then I wouldn't do anything hasty. There have been a lot of reports of poor or non-existant reception across a lot of the country, although not generally the North West. This is caused by atmospherics causing distant signals to travel much further than normal.

S CRICHTON: I think the likely answer is that it's touch and go as to whether you will receive them as they are not as strong as the rest.
