Dave:

Did you not read the post immediately before yours?
The highest channel used by Midhurst is C48, 690MHz.
Since COM7 was closed at all of the 25 main transmitters that broadcast it, there isn't a single Freeview transmitter in the country broadcasting above C48.

If you need a new aerial for Midhurst, you need a Group K aerial.
Group T or Wideband, even Group B, could leave you vulnerable in the future to Mobile transmissions in the 700MHz band (4G or 5G) especially if you have any masts near you. You would then need a filter and that could still be insufficient if the mobile mast is very very close.

How good is your current reception? How far are you from Midhurst? If you provide a Full postcode we might be able to offer some further advice.

Dave: The 700MHz band clearance was completed in August 2020 and the temporary COM7 multiplex on UHF channel 56 (which was never broadcast from Midhurst) closed at the end of June this year. There are no transmitters broadcasting on any frequency above 694MHz, the 700MHz band is now used by the mobile networks for 4G and 5G and the 800MHz band has been used for 4G since 2013. A group K aerial will be suitable for receiving Midhurst (or any other transmitter) in the vast majority of locations.

From location RH149QS

Intermittent 'no signal' message on screen.

Tuned into Midhurst transmitter.

All channels appear to show good signal strength. But signal quality mostly zero. Though sometimes channel 34 shows reasonable quality and shows picture and sound ok.

Please can you cure this problem from Midhurst transmitter?

Thanks.

Robert:

There are currently no reported problems with the transmitter and it's not been listed for Planned Engineering recently. This is an independent technical help-site so we couldn't cure a problem if there was one and for Planned Engineering you'd have to wait until work was complete.

What you are probably seeing is down to current weather conditions, there is some tropospheric ducting/temperature inversion which sometimes occurs with high pressure, more common in the summer but can occur at other times.
This produces interference as signals from other transmitter in Europe or the UK travel further than normal. The set will often initially see this as a reduction in signal quality until the point it cannot decode the signals and the signal can go to zero as it looks just like noise.
Current conditions are quite strong and are periodically affecting large parts of the UK.

Not all multiplexes will be affected at the same time, it'll depend on where the interference is coming from. Do NOT retune, retuning when you have no signal or badly pixellated pictures often just clears the correct tuning or you get tuned to an interfering signal which will disappear as conditions change.

The BBC have issued warnings.
For a simplistic explanation, see https://www.bbc.co.uk/rec…ure.

Since the fine weather started, I have been unable to watch ITV or BBC channels without constant interference. ITV is the worst, with both sound & vision badly affected. I have taken advice from a local aerial co., who say it is 'just the weather'. I am a lone pensioner who watches a lot of TV so this is very annoying. I am reduced to viewing on my laptop!
Please help.

Thank you.
