The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Further to my previous e-mail on the 20th March, I get a perfect picture on freeview channels 12 yesterday, and 15 film 4 in the morning up to about 9.15.from then there is a "no signal" until about 10.45 at night then the picture is perfect again. This means during daylight hours between the times above I am unable to watch these channels. Can you let me know the reason for this please

Mr M Brooks: If you had Freeview before switchover and didn't have problems, the signal is could now be too strong. If you have any amplifiers, remove them. If you don't have any amplifiers, consider adding an attenuator.

In January, the ArqB multiplex changed mode to increase capacity - but at the cost of needing a larger signal-to-noise ratio. This has made the coverage area smaller. However, the Digital UK predictor shows you should be well within coverage.

The ArqB multiplex will change channel and increase in power at the end of September. That may resolve the problem.

Hello

Your site appears to be full of technical wonders, so I hope you may be able to help.

Postcode BA2 7LW. Antenna in the attic with amplifier.

No problems receiving all necessary channels on new Sony TV.

New Humax PVR picks up the wrong BBC1 channel when using auto install. Humax techsupp gave me instructions for manual retune which has solved that but created a new problem: Dave and Dave JaVu both rubbish. Humax techsupp not responding.

Chris Gill: If you are able to receive MuxC from more than one transmitter it is likely that your PVR found a weak signal (possibly from Hannington) and stored the channels from it before the scan reached the stronger Mendip signal. You will need to do a manual tune to C56+ for MuxC in the same way that you did for Mux BBCA (C61) in order to receive the correct BBC1 region.

HI
I am in the ba1 3rr area , just bought a humax t2 hd freeview , and new high gain 48 element aerial in loft via a booster ,to replace an old yagi roof mount.
i receive all sd channels fine , but am getting break up on the HD channels , humax is showing only 3 bars for HD channels.

I am also getting welsh HD channel along with x3 BBC hd channels,

I did a auto tune search when i got it and problems, i then noticed an Humax update, i did this and re auto tuned , and ithough this sorted the problems,

Is it possible ihave tuned into another tranmitter hence low signal strenghts for HD , maybe a welsh transmitter ?
Can i manually search , if so how ?

much appreciated as i dont know whether to take the Humax back and get a refund

Many thx

Paul C: I thought that the Humax HD boxes now asked you which region you want to save.

It looks like where you are, you have a choice of three transmitters: the main West-region mast at Mendip, the main Welsh mast at Wenvoe, and the Bath relay (Freeview Light, carries only the three PSB multiplexes). You should get good or very good results from all of these.

There was no need to replace your aerial. Most of the benefit from the 'high gain' aerial (and most of them have no higher gain than an 18-element Yagi) is lost by putting it in the loft. Putting the aerial outside prevents a lot of problems with signals reflected off interior surfaces and attenuated by passing through roof tile and brick. Reflections can alter the signal's polarization too, so you pick up more spill-over from the other polarization.

A wideband aerial will cause you problems in this area, not solve them. The grouped aerial would have been picking up Mendip and rejecting Wenvoe and Bath. Bath requires a Group A aerial oriented vertically, Wenvoe needs a horizontal Group B, and Mendip a horizontal Group C/D.

Boosters generally add noise and where you are, you shouldn't need one. I'd start by disconnecting that.

on wednesday 30th March a note appeared on the TV screen asking me to do a channel scan because of changes in Freeview transmission. I did this which resulted in the loss of all the Freeview channels in ARQb . Is there a reason for this? Can you help please . the aerial is on the roof. The picture and sound is perfect on all other channels. Why have I lost these channels after doing a scan as requested ? Thanks , Mike Brooks

Mr M Brooks: You said before you were having picture break-up on channels on this multiplex. Try retuning it after 10:45pm or before 9:15am, the times you said last week that you got a good picture.

I'm not sure why you were prompted to retune, there were no changes at this transmitter on that date. There were switchover changes at Nottingham, Waltham, and Sandy Heath and its relays, but they're right over the other side of the country.
