Almost three years after the launch of Freesat, Channel 4's high definition channel has finally appeared in the electronic programme guide of the free-to-air satellite service.

The service can now be found at position 126.

This now means you can watch the same four HD services on Freeview HD and Freesat HD: BBC One HD, ITV1 HD, Channel 4 HD and BBC HD.

I use a portable dish and free to air decoder in my caravan.

I can align the dish and get nearly all the channels available without great difficulty except for CBS Action. Why is that one channel so hard to position the dish for ? (50,1.37)

Chris: The beam for that transponder is slightly different to the "normal" ones for the UK - see Eutelsat satellites : EUROBIRD 1 satellite at 28.5 degrees East - this could be the cause.

I wish they would put RTE channels on Freesat

John: Yes, that would seem very sensible. Except they are going to use a totally different satellite for their service...

Hi, I'm trying to decide whether to install freesat or freeview. Not concerned about number of channels, happy(ish) with current terrestrial batch, but I'm concerned about freeview 'pixellation' / 'freezing' of picture. Is this something one just has to expect (presumably more so in bad weather)with freeview? But then I read that the freesat picture is 'softer' than freeview. Could anyone dispel/confirm? Grateful for any help.

Ronald: The pictures on satellite and Freeview are technically identical.

You don't get "'pixellation' / 'freezing'" on Freeview if you install it correctly (use a rooftop aerial) and are in a serviced area. This is hard to say for you as you have not provided a full postcode.

Briantist, thanks for your reply. My Postcode is IP4 2XD. Predicted coverage doesn't seem good according to Digital uk site, yet aerial installers are saying there shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for your response Braintist, and for answering the above question elsewhere. I'm planning on installing a dish myself, see they're cheaply available on Amazon. Has any one any tips on what to go for/avoid? What type of cable/quality should I use? Re. receiver, although not concerned about HD as don't have HD T.V. (should I be - will an SD box become obsolete soonish?), see everyone seems to rave about Humax - am I likely to achieve a qualitative difference in terms of reception/ease of use over say A Bush SD box for £20 from Argos?
Thanks again for your help.
