Hello,
appear to be having problems with reception, have reset TV and put it on a mains filter, tv is less than a year old as is the ariel setup affixed high to the side of the house, mostly affected are the HD channels, they freeze and loose sound every 5mins or so, signal strenth reads 96 and bit rate error reads between 240 and 400, on standard TV signal is between 80 and 90 and loose sound intermittantly once every 25mins only been happening for the last week or so. 26/11/11

Moving to house on post code ba22 7pa. I know that this house picks up from Stockhill transmitter but wonder if it would be possible to get a signal from the mendip transmitter?

Hi Adam
I dont take jobs in at your location so cannot comment on what the signal quality to exspect but the errors within the signals your receving are way to high even for standard TV reception your bit error rates need to be zero or at very least close to for best performance.
You need to talk to a local engineer and go from there.
Regards
Dave

Re. Comment by Jeff Glynn 25th Nov
Yes we've most definitely noticed the drop off in signal on channel 52 (BBC1 etc) to the extent that we entirely lost reception of these channels. We live in a weak signal area 44 miles from Mendip Tx, due to ground topography it is the only Tx we can see. Freeview had been perfect since digital changeover until about 4 weeks ago when the problem arose. This prompted me to entirely replace our aerial set up top to bottom. New high gain antenna, new masthead amp, new cabling, better and higher antenna location.
Result, we got Channel 52 back, but it is still marginal, markedly lower signal than chan 54 which is booming in. Conclusion, something has changed at the Tx end.

Here in BA12 9LT, sat on the 125m contour line, we still receive tv signals from Plymouth, Mendip and SWales - evidenced by the fact that we can watch all the BBC local news transmissions from those areas. The Wales signal appears to be the strongest as that is the one picked up as No.1 on the EPG. The other two come up as 801 and 802. We also experience pixelisation on all three from about 22:00 each evening and sometimes in the morning on the integrated set in our bedroom.

1. What has happened to Sky News, Pick, Dave and possibly others, suddenly unavailable in the West of England?

2. Why can't you leave the channels alone instead of constantly moving them around (to make room for more commercial rubbish?) ?

Hi,
i live in sp8, and tune to the Mendip transmitter. Ive got 100% on most channels, but only 40% on the HD ones on CH58. The freeview sites suggest CH58 is at 100% strength. Ive checked my cables and aerial and all look good. what other things might be the cause ?

Rod Roberts: You have not provided a postcode so it hard to be sure, but I would have a look at Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .
