martin: I apologise if my reply was somewhat flippant.

The only thing I will say is that in your general area receivers can sometimes tune to Rowridge instead of Whitehawk. The workaround is to run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial unplugged for the first 50%. This works because Rowridge uses low frequencies and Whitehawk high ones.

martin: Purely on the issue of your aerial, a simple way to put it is, that if you presently receive your signal from the Whitehawk Hill station then there is absolutely nothing to worry about concerning Freeview HD, as the transmission frequencies used by Whitehawk Hill (inc analogue) has always been in the group C/D aerial reception band, and nothing is changing.

The only thing I would say though is, if come tomorrow you get any hints of picture break up then its almost guaranteed to be caused by an excessively high level of signal being received, as the 4Kw transmitters are only located at only 1 mile away from your code area, so if the aforementioned problem did occur then you would require to fit an attenuator in line with your TV's aerial socket.

I do realise that the BBC mux is already on high power, but I only mention this as HD is more vulnerable to excessive signal level problems, and indeed in some cases can even cut out altogether.

Retuned. Now I have broken picture on all freeview channels (only BBCA was affected before). Do I conclude that excessively high signal is to blame and get myself an attenuator? Seems difficult to believe...

Sadly can only get signal from Whitehawk Hill. Nothing from Rowridge or any repeaters.

Retuned, am now getting all the HD channels.

Getting a bitrate error of 200 on the HD channels but that isn't producing any breakup at the moment.

The D3+4 mux has a slightly higher signal strength compared to the BBCA mux.

Weather is nice today so will have to see what happens when the weather is bad.

I use Freesat mainly but have a tv that can record Freeview to a hard drive, so use it as a back up or for channels that are not on Freesat yet, such as Dave and Viva.
