deborah: If the TV in the kitchen uses a magic eye then it must be linked into the Sky boxes RF2 output socket, and if as you say it also links up to the bedroom then the bedroom TV must also be fed from the Sky boxes RF2, the point is that when I mentioned about changing the RF channel I had assumed that you were using the standard method of connecting TV's in bedrooms when proving them with a link to a Sky boxes RF output, the normal procedure being to connect the main TV aerial into the Sky boxes "normal" aerial input, the signals from the normal aerial passing through the Sky box as well as picking up the Sky boxes own analogue RF channel, then both sets of signals passing along the single coax to the remotely positioned TV, you then selecting what you require on the TV.

However I feel that this might not be the case with your installation as the normal TV aerial seemingly does not connect into the Sky boxes aerial input socket, or does it?

On the other hand though if things are connected that way and the Freeview box in the bedroom is connected in the normal way via a scart lead into the TV, then all you would then require to do is select what you want to view using the A/V button on the TV's remote control, that switching the TV from Freeview via the scart, over to analogue via the TV's tuner, this provided that you have a jumper lead between the Freeview boxes output socket into the TV's aerial socket.

Could you please also provide the model of TV you are referring to, because as aforementioned in my previous posting the fact of it being old means it must have analogue.

Apart from that, you also have to bear in mind that starting from April 4th the analogue service you view (if? that is) from Crystal Palace will start to close, and on April 18th cease to exist, as from then onwards only Freeview will be available.

deborah: Although I already mentioned this in my latest reply, on further thinking about it I feel that your problem is just possibly because of you not having installed a jumper lead between the Feeeview boxes loop through "aerial out" socket and the TV's aerial socket, as although the aerial feeds into the Freeview box then into the TV via the scart lead, there is no way for the analogue signal component in the same aerial lead to reach the TV, this I assume why you have to take the lead out of the Freeview box and transfer it into the TV.

Regarding the older model TV, I feel that this might ONLY be an analogue set, and so as also previously mentioned you simply switch between Freeview and Sky using the TV's AV button, as this switches the TV between its scart input socket and its internal tuner, which you will be using for Sky reception or anything else analogue.

I have sky hd in one room with a coax to my kitchen tv. The sky picture buzzes on the kitchen tv, does the rf channel need changing on the sky box or is there something else I can do?
I have no terrestrial aerial, if I have one installed into my skybox will that allow me to watch freeview on the kitchen tv through the coax?

jason: If you do not have anything connected into your Sky boxes "normal" aerial socket then it should not really matter what RF channel you use on the Sky box, but by all means try setting it on another channel just in case the RF modulator is a bit iffy, setting of same achieved by pressing "Services" then "4-0-1-select" in a continuous smooth fashion (best done whilst NOT looking at the screen) then you will see "RF outlet" mentioned on the 4th position down.

If you find its sitting on 68 then try 66, not forgetting to rescan your TV (on analogue) after doing so, if its still not cured by this action try another channel of around 30 or so.

Regarding the second part of your question, if you have a normal aerial (roof or loft) connected into your Sky boxes aerial socket then you will be able to receive Freeview as well as the Sky programme that's being viewed in the other room (as presenty done) but only if you purchase a Freeview TV that also has analogue on it, then of course the correct setting of the RF channel is important as it might accidentally clash with a Freeview signal, this being where your post code would be of assistance regarding advice on the best channel to use.

Hi there. I have just installed a new sky+HD box, replacing my old Sky+ box which didn't have HD. My old set up all worked fine including the tv link upstairs ... (The RF coax supplied me with a more than suitable picture on the upstairs TV).

I have connected up all the wires and cables again with my new sky+HD box and it works perfectly as well as the magic eye, although one thing is I appear to be receiving a bit of a weak signal on the upstairs TV and the screen is a tiny bit grainy which is sometimes notable. All the set up is correct (and the magic eye works) but I just think the picture upstairs is a little too fuzzy, is there anyway I can improve it?

Harry: Excluding any possibility of a problem existing in the coax link from the Sky boxes RF2 output to the upstairs TV, like a strand of wire accidentally touching the middle core in one of the plugs, then it might be that the RF modulator in your new box has a lower output than in the old one, this not exactly being unknown! and should it be the case with your new box then the thing that sometimes helps is to choose an RF channel at the opposite end of the range from wherever its presently sitting.

The usual procedure being to press "services" then in a continuous smooth flowing fashion "4 - 0 -1 - select" then in No4 position you will see RF outlet, select a new channel number then rescan your TV (in analogue) to pick up the changed RF output channel.

By the way if you have a really late box it might be "0 - 0 - 1 - select", this action best achieved by NOT looking at the screen whilst doing so.

Thanks for the swift reply, changed channel from 63 to c21.
Closer consideration would reveal the signal weakness is similar to some sort of interface, but thanks for your help anyway.

Harry: I had meant also to add, that should you by any chance be using a normal aerial connected into the Sky box for purposes of feeding a Freeview signal to another location along with Sky, then avoid setting the Sky boxes RF channel anywhere between Ch40-54 to avoid interference from the very local Saddleworth transmitter station, and likewise the boxes RF output to the reception of it.

That said though, even with the RF channel set well outside of the range mentioned your analogue receivers tuner could still suffer slightly from the effects of a strong signal being detected, this resulting in exactly the same symptoms as a lower output modulator.

Harry: Needless to say that "if" any aerial was connected into the Sky box and Saddleworth was having an effect, then if the aerial connection was removed from the Sky box the picture would instantly improve, although this effect can sometimes also show up if a strong Freeview signal is picked up in the coax lead between the Sky box and the TV by the coax thats been used having less than perfect screening.

Its just always something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the reply again.
I do have a rooftop aerial connected to the box downstairs only for purposes of having freeview along with sky upstairs so maybe that's affecting the signal as you said. I may consider the possibility of avoiding receiving signal via the sky box and receive freeview direct to the upstairs TV.
Thanks again
