To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Jo: And when you say "another complete retune" it should really be from after having carried out a "factory default" procedure which will have guaranteed that nothing is lurking about in the boxes memory system.

The set top aerial is also a good idea, as with you being located at only 3 miles away from the transmitter it would be extremely easy to suffer from signal overloading problems.

Ivan Pope: At only approximately 2 miles from the transmitter your aerial should not be anything elaborate or problems can be expected due to an excessively high level of signal being received, as this can block reception in the tuner of whatever you are using by its RF input circuit being swamped thereby causing instability to occur.

For a test try using a set top aerial or a short piece of wire (about 12") connected into the inner cup of the aerial socket on your TV or box, then follow this action by another re-tune.

We bought a Technika 32" LCD TV with build in Freeview. We have tried tuning it in. Alas to no avail. We tried other Freeview equipment my son owns with no luck. All say no signal. Looking at the Meridian area it says changeover is June. However, there is no analogue signal. The house is around 4 years old with a modern style arial on the roof. This problem might have existed for sometime as my son normally uses freesat. ME12 2PN

I have lost all channels (freeview) on the Humax Fox HDR Fox T2, but have most on the attached Sony Bravia. The Humax display on the box says 'no channels' or 'installation', but does nothing when you click on ok. My postal code is BN36QE.

Hi, My freeview box (Humax F2-FOX T) was working fine for 5 years then couldnt pick up any channels since couple weeks ago. I did reset and retune on April 18 but pictures still scrambled, then go 'no or bad signals'. I have tried every possibilities, including bought new antenna (both amplified and simple cheapest one), tried with new freeview box, new coax cable, moved the antenna around, retune and reset so many times, but still no luck. when I switch off the box for 1 minute, then on again, it shows pictures (clear) for only 30 secounds, then start to pixelate again, then completely gone. I check the signal strenght is very low (on freeview box). also tv on the other room lost all the channels. I live in E14 3HB area, on top floor, use roof aerial. Is there any interferences or work going on arouund the area? please help. its getting frustrating now..

Issues since retune - Many channels on my Humax Fox HDR T2 are either very weak or missing, same on Samgsung DTV and older Sony PVR. It can only be the signal from Crystal Palace, we are only 4 miles away in Tooting SW7. Not much fun!

Mike: Being so close to a transmitting station as powerful as Crystal Palace you always have to suspect that any problems being experienced are caused by a severe signal overloading of the TV's / boxes tuner, so should one be available for a test try using a set top aerial and giving the TV / box a re-tune after installing same.

hunny: Please see my reply to Mikes posting @ 09.56pm, as this applies to anyone with reception difficulties that only started after the main switchover on the 18th.

Another point being, that the signal strength / quality readings seen in any box or TV can be totally wrong because the excessive level of signal in the tuner can corrupt the system used to measure the signal, and the error caused always gives a much lower level than actually exists.

I have bought a Ferguson F01SDB box but cannot get the modulator to work. I want to use this box with a tv that does not have a scart socket.
Following the manual precisely it is possible to tune the tv to the box output channel but when the arial is reconnected to the box the signal vanishes from the tv. Using the scart system with another tv works ok. What can be wrong? I bought a second box and had the same problem.
Another strange thing is that the online manual is different from the printed version included with the box - namely that the online version states that the modulator channel can be changed in the A/V setup menu. This operation is not referred to in the printed manual and there seems no way to change it on the box.

My TV (full HD) is tuned to the Whitehawk Hill Xmtr. Their web page shows HD broadcasts on Channels 50-54, but these are shown as "Channel not available" when I try to access them. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong??
