To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

ken white: Full HD has nothing to do with Freeview HD. It simply means that it is capible of showing pictures up to 1080p.

However, if your TV does have a Freeview HD tuner built-in, then there may be an option to specify DVB-T2 mode when manually tuning to C50.

The specification will say "DVB-T2" which is what HD services use. DVB-T is standard definition, so if it only says that, then it won't pick up Freeview HD.

Help! I'm very close to crystal palace transmitter and since switchover my reception has been terrible, most channels break up and drop out totally, this is on both my tv with integrated freeviewv hd and my ps3 playtv.

I've added a variable attenuator and also changed the leads to double sheilded, but still the issue remains.

The Ariel is in the loft...

Thanks in advance, I'm a bit stuck for ideas!

J: If the signal received is really excessively high then sometimes an ordinary attenuator (even 20dB) will not reduce the level enough for satisfactory reception, so to test if this is applying to where you are located try using a standard (not amplified type) set top aerial, or if you don't have access to one a short (about 12") piece of copper wire inserted into the inner part of the aerial socket.

Thanks for the reply jb38

I ran ~ 3m of unscreened coax, not connected to wall plate today, this was bad up until tonight.

I took 30cm of coax, removed the cover and braid and tried this.. earlier I was getting breakup, but now this seems ok, BBC 1 shows '10' as signal strength as does 2-5

Could the rain / high pressure also be part of the issue (doubt the rain would do much)

Thanks again for your help :)

Hi,
I have recently done a channel scan and got one of the missing multiplexes (still missing some multiplexes but that is a different issue).

When I first got channels on this device, they came in, in the D800 range. I was (very helpfully) instructed to do a reset on that machine which solved it.

However the multiplex coms 5 has recently come through and has put its channels in the D800 range. These have proved totally resistant to a reboot. I have rebooted twice (exactly the same operation that sorted out the other channels), and this group remain in the D800.

Any thoughts as to how to make these channels move to where they should be (bearing in mind they dont move on a channel search or a reboot)

Our communal tv aerial was hit by lightning last Friday. Blick have fixed the problem as none of us had tv pictures for a few days, now there is only me without a picture. I have an LG c46 series tv and I tried auto-tuning it, unplugging tv and aerial and still it says not programmed, I even did a factory re-set and still the same. Any ideas please?

mandy burnell: Have the aerial installers confirmed that the signal is coming from your aerial socket? Or do you have another TV or box that you can connect to it to see if there is a signal?

Or can you have one of your neighbours bring their TV round and try it?

There is the possibility that the lightning strike has damaged the tuner. If so, the TV may still be of use, but will require a set-top box to receive TV.

Hi Dave, yes, they said the signal is ok, and I should just be able to retune the tv. The tv goes through the motions of searching for channels but doesn't find any at all.
