Dear Sir
Sorry to be this late seeing your posting but have just cobled together a replacement windows XP pc to replace one that died (Mother board & PSU) IE:- salvaging bits from two machines so the last week all spare time went on that task. Whats sleep?
May I surgest an alternative option.
Its all in one box so nice and tidy!
If funds allow have a look at the range of DVD / Bluray recorders by Panasonic each comes with a hardrive and I suspect twin tuners (I don't know if they make a single tuner version) freeview / freesat depening on which tech you choose the DVD recorder versions should cheaper than the BD recoder option and you can edit out parts of programs on hard drive befor archiving to DVD / BD I have only used versions that include option to record to both DVD and BD so can not say if following is true for the DVD only decks but the decks I have used that support BD and DVD also had HD free to air tuners (Free view :- BBC 1- BBC HD- ITV HD-CH4 HD) (Free Sat :- BBC 1- BBC HD- ITV HD-CH4 HD NHK News HD) and Wedding TV HD if you view via the other channels tuner menu option but you'll have to trawl through lots of test and trial outputs to find it) Staiting the obvious now maybe but the BD recorders come with bonus of also playing bluray discs! some are even 3D ready if a 3D set is used plus will even record own 3D from 3D Camcorder to BD via HD
Good luck & happy bargin hunting

Briantist: A spare transponder is being used on Eutelsat 28A by GLOBECAST/ITN Jubilee. The parameters are, 12524, Horizontal, DVB-S, QPSK, 26700 symbol rate.
There are six channels on the transponder named Standup 1 to Standup 6.

David Noakes - If you could post again advising what permutation you have of the SKY receivers ie:- Are these HD recordable with SKY plus, or a mix say one SKY plus and the rest standard non recordable? This information would help in advising you further. "Freeview" is the service provided by a terrestrial aerial, rather than a dish. "Freesat" receivers would connect to your existing satellite dish.

I live in Stroud. Why do I have to put up with receiving just the public service channels i.e. about a dozen, when the Wenvoe transmitter pumps out 40-odd? I understand that getting my aerial to point at Wenvoe instead would work, but I don't speak Welsh! Is there ever going to be a fix for this, in other words, is someone ever going to pump all the Freeview channels through the Randwick transmitter? Grrrr.

Mick: Only you know why you make yourself "put up" with receiving only the Public Service channels from Stroud!!

The reason is because the Commercial broadcasters do not have a "Public Service" obligation. They operate on a profit-driven basis and the cost of including over a 1,000 small transmitters in their portfolio would outway the benefit (as far as they are concerned).

The 81 transmitters that carry the Commercial multiplexes are the largest, by viewer population. This achieves 90% coverage of the population. To include the 1,000 plus relays would roughly double the cost of transmission whilst only adding about 8.5% of the population to the Commercial broadcasters' viewer bases. Clearly they don't see that as a worthwhile investment when they are in the business of selling advertising to generate revenue. That is, they don't consider the additional number of viewers to be worth the cost as far as attractiveness with advertisers is concerned.

It is unfortunate that the Stroud transmitter uses channels that are interleaved within the Commercial channels from Wenvoe as you could have had a second aerial installed on Wenvoe and combined them into one downlead to give you no Welsh programmes and the Commercial channels.

If you provide your location, preferably post code or nearby post code, then we might be able to suggest what the likelihood of receiving from another transmitter might be. The Slad transmitter covers a small area as it is only 2W, but it does broadcast on channels that could be combined with those of Wenvoe (if there is a location where both can be received).

Hi there.......great site with lots of useful info but In the details for each Freeview transmitter I note the fec change from 2/3 to 3/4 for the COM muxes is not shown for the two transmitters I can check here: Ridge Hill and Mendip. Maybe there's a reason for this? I thought these changes had occurred in April 2012.
