Hi i am a sky subscriber, (basic package)
i am moving to a new home soon and noticed that th sky dish has 2 sets of wires, one to the living room, and the other to a bedroom.

i will be taking my sky subscription with me, but wondered if it was possible to FsFs to the upstairs (old sky+box) while still reciving my sky subscription to the new HD box in the living room???

Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks

Adam Butterworth: If you are paying a Sky subscription for your new HD box then nothing will change no matter where you use it so long as the card is kept paired with that box, if though you are meaning a Sky+ HD box then that requires two feeds from the dish, and so an extra cable will require to be run from the dish to the HD box "if" you still wish to use the old Sky box in the bedroom, as otherwise this second lead could have been diverted from the bedroom to the living room.

Should though this not apply, then your old Sky+ box can be used as an "ordinary" Sky box upstairs on the second lead from the dish, the only thing is that you will not be able to use anything connected to the recorder side of the box as Sky permanently retains access to that unless a monthly subscription is paid for access, the subscription I believe to be around £10.00.

Hi
I have been watching sky + HD for over 3 months now with the sky box connected to the tv in the lounge and a cable from the RF2 output on the sky box to another tv in the living room with a Antiferance infra red sensor fitted and everything worked great. Able to watch and change channels in the livingroom. On the 12th june no signal on TV in the livingroom but ok in the lounge TV with all SKy channels OK. Checked output signal from RF1 and RF2 with a short ariel cable and getting no signal from any of the RF outputs. Is there anything else i could try.

I live in the North West and should receive from Winter Hill however I get BBC, ITV Wales and S4C. I have deleted these and done a manual search; Ch 62 for BBC North West and my TV picks up these channels. But when I search for Ch 59 for ITV Granada and Ch 4 etc my search brings no results. I have deleted all the channels they are meant to replace but I am having no luck. Many thanks.

Alex D: I assume that you are picking up Moel y Parc, for which BBC is on C45 and ITV Wales/S4C is on C49.

Run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial lead unplugged up to C53 (if it gives channel numbers during the scan) or 66%. This should miss out Moel y Parc channels.

If you don't get it in in time, you may have to manually add Winter Hill channels:

C54 BBCB (HD, if applicable)
C55 ArqB (Yesterday etc)
C58 SDN/ITV3 etc
C59 D3&4 (ITV1 etc)

If you find that the thing decides to retune when unattended, then see if there is an option to stop it doing so. Indeed, as a matter of course it might be a good idea to disable such a "feature" as it would appear to be a nuisance. There isn't forced to be an option to disable it and if does turn out that it retunes at will, then cross that bridge when you get to it.

There are two possibilities that spring to mind:

1. An attenuator to reduce all signals with the hope that the Moel y Parc one is weaker and will, with sufficient attenuation, become so faint that the receiver doesn't use it.

2. A filter to only allow Group C/D channels through (C48 to C68). I'm not sure how effective this might be. Whilst it will reduce C48 a bit (owing to the fact that it's near its cut-off), ITV/S4C from Moel y Parc is on C49. It also uses C51 and C52 for two of the Commercial multiplexes, although they are lower power than the Public Service channels so may be less likely to be picked up.

leiann king: What you have said suggests that your dish has possibly been moved a fraction out of alignment or that the coax into the "F" connector plug at the rear of the box is defective, but to verify if you are receiving any signal or not press "services" - then 4 - 6 and check if anything is showing in the strength / quality bars.

Sky might charge you "if" you are out of the 12 months original installation contract period if they installed the dish, but they would tell you this when you phone them up.
