I have recently given up my Sky HD+ and am now using Freesat HD which is built into my Samsung 40ES6800. My TV has a CI card input on the back - if I put the Sky card in will it allow the free-to-air channels from Sky to be added into the Freesat epg? Mostly I just want the Channel 5 in HD.

David: no. The sky card isn't a common interface card.

geoff: EPG=Electronic Programme Guide

Satellite dishes installed for Sky are entirely compatible with reception of Freesat because as far as the dish is concerned, the two are 100% technically identical.

geoff: Just to add to that said by Dave Lindsay, Sky and Freesat dishes are exactly the same in the technical sense and a dish is just generally called a Sky dish by habit, as a Sky box could also use a dish installed for Freesat purposes.

EPG (electronic programme guide) just indicates the order that the channels are arranged in by each respective service and although for example ITV3 is received on 119 on a Sky box and 115 on a Freesat box the programme is received by both boxes on exactly the same transponder frequency.

kevin: If your Freesat box has a "non-Freesat mode", you can add the channels in manually.

The numbers are on the Eutelsat 28A & Astra 1N/2A/2F at 28.2°E - LyngSat page.
