I have just been told that in the near future BBC is only going to transmit in HD.

Is this correct please?

If so when is this to happen?

Bob F: Next year the BBC will broadcast all their services in HD, as well as SD.

Sometime between 2019 and 2025, it is expected that all broadcasts will be HD (DVB-T2), but this is "expected to be" rather than "official policy" at the moment.

Hi Briantist ,

Thank you for the HD services information.

I have just bought a 40" L1333 Full High Definition LED TV - Toshiba, but cannot get any HD programmes via Freeview from Mendip transmitter.

My post code is GL10 3BJ.

I tried a manual search of multiplex C58, but could find no signal.

What do I need to do to get the HD programs on 101, 102, 103 & 104 please?

I have the TV link to a Humax PVR 9300T hard drive recorder which was needed with my previous 15 year old analogue TV that has just died.
I can also receive Freeview directly from the boosted aerial type C/D E

Bob F: Your TV does not have the required Freeview HD / DVB-T2 tuner. See the "Tuning" section of 40" L1333 Full High Definition LED TV - Toshiba - it only has DVB-T.

Bob F: Further to what Michael said, it is always wise to check that an 'HD' TV does have an HD tuner - they all should do in this day and age, but (amazingly) Toshiba contines to make a 2013 model without one.

I've recently found out from the internet that the Cheddar self-help relay is no longer in use, and Cheddar is served by Stockland Hill, thereby giving it the south west regional news (BBC Spotlight) rather than the more appropriate west regional news (BBC Points West). If the Cheddar relay served 1674 homes, why was it a self-help relay in the first place? Surely a relay serving 1674 homes should have been an official one; many official ones were built around the UK to serve around 1000 homes, or even less.

Transmitter engineering: We are served by Mendip transmitter. All four freeview channels have lost signal with only occasional picture and sound. I am connected via aerial. All other channels are fine. Re-searching does not resolve. Tested again 0940 Friday 13th 2013, and problem persistes.

Hi Andy
We have found over the last couple of months customers in fringe locations like parts of upper weston bath etc experiencing intermittent problems with ch49 and 54, after extensive monitoring where by muxes as well as signal strength are giving erratic readings we are pretty convinced its down to transmitter problems and advised customers to hang on and wait.
Worth taking note if doing new installs in these locations as you could end up barking up the wrong tree if you get my meaning.
regards
