You're right...

I've just checked on my LG TV and the old 'teletext' style subtitles are still available via DVB-S, along with the standard DVB subtitle system.

Over the recent months I've had problems with the programme series link missing in the EPG from BBC1 Waltham (East Mids) transmitter. I can also receive the Sutton transmitter(West Mids) and the link is present there.Sometimes the Waltham link is present when I set the recording but is missing later and sometimes it changes part way through a series.

I can't use the Sutton one to record from as the signal isn't reliable.

I contacted the BBC for advice but they weren't interested.

Has anyone else come across this and does anyone know of a solution the problem?

I use a Sony RDR-HXD870 HD/DVD recorder and don't have any other tuner/recorder to try and see if they respond they same.

Brian, Can you manuel tune your TV? it may be that Sutton is overidding Waltham thus the series link is settling with the wrong transmitter ? if you autotune without the aerial connected (to wipe all stations from memory) then manual tune the Waltham transmitter frequency's one at a time
29, 49, 54, 56, 57, hd 58
This should solve the problem

Ian

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately this doesn't cure the problem - the series link is missing when I only have Waltham tuned in. I've tried retuning again just to make sure but the problem is still there. I checked a program for next week - Father Brown - which shows a link in Sutton's EPG but not one in Waltham's EPG, even after I retuned and removed Sutton from the guide.

Brian: I've only just spotted your question, but I've got a 895, and I get a problem a bit like that - sometimes you can series link, and sometimes you can't. It tends to be on BBC1 & 2 only, and comes and goes.

I honestly have no answer, but at least I'm not the only one!

My biggest problem is not recording on BBC1 becuase it keeps picking up the 800's channels instead, and then not recording. I thought an attenuator would solve it, but it didn't. My wife is not happy when her programmes dont record, so Thank goodness for the X-Box, which has Iplayer.

Mike B:

I had the same trouble, programmes not being recorded: it turned out to be because of a conflict between Sutton Coldfield and Waltham. I cured it by clearing the channels and then doing a manual retune of just the channels I wanted.

Re my recent problem, sudden bad reception from Waltham on my indoor aerial: my LG TV seems to have cured this for me: I did an autotune and found that, despite the aerial being aligned on Waltham, it had picked up all the channels from Sutton Cold field, in almost the opposite direction, except that it gave me the option of choosing Sutton or Waltham for BBC1 - I opted for Waltham so that I could get the East Midland news etc. Against all the odds, I'm now getting good reception on all desired channels including HD. Hope it lasts! Many thanks to those who have made suggestions.

Has anyone got any "signal quality" on channel 26 (the new local tv mix)? I have been seeing 96% signal strength for a few weeks, but zero signal quality. (52.9912,-1.2157)
