The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

Tina: Your aerial system probably has a problem, so its not surprising they cant help. Call a professional and get it checked.

I can receive all of the BBC channels but can no longer view any of the BBC information guides, all other channels and information guides are working ok. Also the menu button on the remote doesn't work now so I am unable to do a rescan and the text button doesn't work either so teletext is not available. I have a 10 year old Panasonic digital tv with built in free view with a roof top aerial. Postcode GL4, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Valerie: I think most contributors to this page would suggest an upgrade to a new TV is in order but that is the ultimate upgrade. If your 10 year old Panasonic(model number would be useful) has an HDMI input, is HD Ready and you can still access that external input using the 10 year old remote then a separate Freeview HD set-top box or PVR could be a cheaper option. These will have the DVB-T2 standard for HD reception that your 2004 TV will not. The cheapest option would be a new remote but there have been several tweaks in the Freeview services that may not work unless your set's firmware can be upgraded and you will need a working 'MENU' key to check. Basic non-HD viewing has not been affected by these tweaks. Full postcode would be useful as well.

Mike Davison: I totally agree - 10 years is a good age, but you'll get a lot more for your money now. However, try checking your repote first. Change the batteries, and then point it at some sort of digital camera (even a cheap mobile phone). If there is a little flash from the remote, then the infra red transmitter is working. You can also clean up the buttons by using some cotton buds, alcohol (gin will do!) and cocktail sticks. Just clean up the buttons, and they might work.

If none of those work, then a replacement remote is about £9 on ebay. Yes, the same thing is great, but frankly, we are using panasonic remotes from 5 years ago at work - they really havn't changed that much.

Using a seperate box or PVR is a great idea - the tuner gets replaced by the box, and the tv works as normal. Humax or Panasonic is the usual choice for PVR. However, if you wanted to replace a 32 from ten years ago, my customers are going for a 40/42in (not actually much bigger), and decent basic Samsung 5000 in a 40in (Freeview HD, but not smart) is £299, with an LG 580 with those extra functions for £379.95. Both very decent TV's.

At least you've got options, and if something doesn't work, you can try something else.

Thanks so much for your help MikeB and Dave, that put our minds at rest a bit. Bizarrely our freeview and DVD player's signals are back again today! I don't know if someone has done some repair work to the aerial while we were out but it seems to be much improved. The only oddity is that we can only pick up 12 channels through our DVD player! I've retuned twice already but can still only get those 12 channels and they're in a muddled order. Do you have any ideas why this might be or how to solve this problem? Very odd!

Many thanks again, Sharon

Sharon: Your recorder is probably tuned to the local light transmitter, rather than Mendip.

I have a Panasonic Viera TV that has always worked fine. We live in the West Highlands & get our Freeview from the Arisaig transmitter.
Last few days we lose all signal in the evenings, but it is there again in the mornings. It tunes to CH1 automatically, although I've been told when tuning manually to go to 23, 26 or 29.
I've checked aerials and all seems fine, and that wouldn't explain why it's back in the morning. Any ideas?

We have a Sony Bravia TV and DVD and all of a sudden we can only change channels through the DVD remote. If we try using TV remote it just says ' selected programmes are not a available' When we us the DVD rwmote it is fine. My husband has retuned the TV and it says now, that the DVD is not communicating with the TV. Please help
