The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Just wondered if we are served by this transmitter? We seem to get some very bad interference during the day where the screen freezes and sometimes the whole picture and sound is distorted! We have some very large trees at the back of us that may interfere? They are the responsibility of the council so if they are the problem I am not sure where to go further with this. Certainly when the wind is up the problem increases. Any advice would be welcome.
Thank you

@M J Levett-Scrivener - I used to live in Trowbridge and was able to get good reception from Mendip on all multiplexes using an indoor aerial both before and after digital switchover. Therefore, I would be inclined to guess that there's something wrong with your aerial or its connection to your TV/set-top box. Things to check would be alignment, aerial group, cable condition and the condition of your TV aerial socket. If the aerial is old, it may be group CD. This will give problems receiving Com7 and Com8. You really need group W, particularly if the government is going to impose yet more frequency changes upon us. If the alignment is out, you will receive fewer multiplexes with worse reception. Likewise if the cable is degraded.

One other thing that is possible is that your system is OK but that you live in a location where the path of transmissions is blocked. When I lived in Trowbridge, I lived just off Frome Road and had a west-facing window for my aerial. Mendip is more or less west of Trowbridge.

A bit late in the day for these comments, but for the record
@M J Levett-Scrivener
As Charles Stuart says you need to check your coax and TV connections and aerial connections. If there is any sign of corrosion, it's best replaced. You should have absolutely no problem with the signal strength even with your C/D aerial, but if you have to replace it do so with a group W.
@Melanie Axon
Very similar comment for you as well,you should have no problem with all multiplexes from Mendip.

M J Levett-Scrivener:

Further to that said by Charles Stuart above, I currently live in Trowbridge, just off Hilperton Road. Reception of the signals from Mendip are generally very good unless:- there are trees in direct line between your aerial and the transmitter; or there is a physical obstruction between the two; or you have a problem with the aerial system.

If you need to change the aerial I would strongly suggest using a log-periodic aerial as that will cover all the proposed services for the next few years at least. A wide band aerial may work but is less sensitive to the HD services on channels 33 (COM7) and 35 (COM8) from Mendip (see the details at the top of this page for which channels carry the signals from Mendip.) Any aerial will need to be mounted as high as possible due to the proximity to the town centre buildings.

One thought, have you checked whether there is an amplifier fitted to the aerial system and is it working properly?
