Why as Aljazeeras TV now gone to HD only? Surely this loses a considerable number of their viewers and for what purpose?

Please note that the license fee can be covered in full, alongside any and all equipment costs for the entire lifetime of any viewer. The BBC do not have to make any cuts, except to replace the current supplier as collector/administrator of the fee. The BBC do not have need of EU grants and will not have need to advertise. The BBC will receive greater funding per fee payer whilst each payer will pay very much less. Included in the free use of my email services is access to the largest legal free streaming tv service in the world. Increase your inbox storage and you get a profit share from my limited by guarantee non profit social enterprise - if the BBC became a provider, that means the benefits at the top of my comment could be provided by the BBC.. Or anyone else taking over from the current tv licensing authority.

Kathy:

We need more information to stand any chance of offering a considered suggestion. need to know where you live by giving a full Post Code (not your address), what TV you are using and whether you have an outdoor aerial or maybe on a community aerial, etc.

Once again, for no apparent reason, all the bbc programmes have no signal in my area. I receive transmissions from the Tunbridge Wells transmitter. This happens once or twice a year. I been through all the inconvenience of re-tuning with no effect. Then, the transmissions all come back again!!! The down period is normally about a month. Is there something I'm not being told? When I check your site, there are no reports of transmitter maintenance or operating issues. What is going on?

Richard Horton: if another signal is blocking reception of the PSB1 mux from Tunbridge Wells no amount of retuning will restore reception until the unwanted interference has been removed or diminishes to a level that it no longer corrupts the data on the required mux. As this happens regularly and only to PSB1 it leads me to wonder if a signal that normally stops short of your location or is always present, but at an extremely low level, rears its head whenever conditions give a slight boost to its range. The COM5 mux from Sandy Heath would appear to be a possible culprit after studying coverage maps. If this is the case it might be possible to improve matters by slight repositioning of the aerial so it sees less of the unwanted signal. It is worth mentioning that the RF modulator in a Sky box or VCR being set around the frequency being blocked or interference from poor HDMI cables is sometimes found to be the cause of a mux being lost for a period of time with reception being restored whenever equipment is switched off or moved.

Hi Brian,

Just for interest, I wondered if you could let me know what thresholds (dBm, dBuV/m etc) that you use for your DVB-T plots?

I understand if you'd rather not say - but thought I'd ask just in case!

Regards, Glyn

Briantist:

I've noticed that the last two daily emails contained entries that were apparently badly formed and hence did not have links that were 'clickable', so a manual search was needed. In yesterday's, for example, the entry "My Freeview box has! no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+: " was unlinked. I found the items but not as easily as normal.

Maybe there is a solution?

There seems to be no mention of BBC Radio 4 LW (198KHz) from Burghead, westerglen or Droitwich. The small MW sites are there but not the LW (unless I just could not find them, highly likely)
