Hi Trevorjharris, To tranmit a program in HD (mode 256-QAM 3/4) instead of the proposed local TV SD mode (mode QPSK 3/4) requires 14.3 dB extra transmitter power or a 27-fold power increase for the same coverage area. As lower transmitter power translates directly into lower investment in transmitters, feeders, antennas, power supply infrastructure, installation and lower running costs, this was done to make the start up of these companies viable in the first place. The transmission mode can upgraded later if revenues permit.

Hi All. Next to the COM7 Freeview HD Test Transmissions from the Crystal Palace Transmitter on Ch33 have today appeared test transmissions on Ch34 and Ch35. I detect a strong signal ("10") but no modulation (Signal Quality is "0").

Hi All. Test Transmissions from Crystal Palace on Channel 29 have been in the air for some weeks. I can now receive vertical colour bars with the text "Local TV Test", sound modulation and network name London on EPG number 791 and 792. The EPG carries the text "Local TV Test1" and "Local TV Test2"

Hi Brian, after reading the article on a516digital I came to the same conclusion that BBC local radio could be distributed by adding multiple local radio streams to a TV region. Might I add that BBC Essex BBC - Essex - Home should be added to your list to be distributed in duplicate by the London as well as the Cambridge TV regions (from Crystal Palace and Sudbury transmitters).
