The only realistic option is to renew the existing licenses and make it a condition that Channel 5 takes up the 5th freeview HD slot. The only advantage that these channels gain from their PSB status is their position on EPG's (3/103 & 5/105).In an era of multichannel broadcasting the real value for any channel is the content they broadcast. For example, if ITV1 lost out to a new bidder they could move to a commercial freeview mux & stay on freesat / sky (in a different EPG channel number) but crucially they would retain the rights to their biggest shows, e.g. Coronation St & X-Factor & would be freed from their PSB obligations. This would make it extremely difficult for a new bidder to enter a very competitive market place.

Briantist: It has been announced here in Oxfordshire that the local DAB mux will be in operation before Christmas. Do you have details on this and also which transmitters will be broadcasting it? Originally it was going to be Oxford (Beckley) & Farthinghoe, but I think there may be additional sites (possibly Bretch Hill amongst Them)

John - Are you sure your Rdaio is tuning to channel 10B correctly ? I say this because although here in Banbury we have perfect line of site to Farthinghoe on 2/3 of my radios (2 tuner seperates & a Sony alarm clock /radio) I had to manually tune in 2 channel 10B.After doing this I get perfect reception. Check if your radio allows manual tuning try tuning channel 10B. Apparently some devices have problems tuning automatically below channel 11A

I suspect quite a lot of freesat boxes are bought by people like me who have sky on their main TV but take one of the spare outputs from sky's 4 way LNB to feed a freesat box on my bedroom TV. Unfortunately the figures don't show who has Sky & Freesat.

Dennis West: You did run a retune your TV/freeview box/recorder after 6am on Wednesday didn't you ? The multiplex that carries ITV3 (SDN) moved from UHF Channel 62 to UHF Channel 50 to allow for 4g mobile phone. The best method is to do a factory reset on your TV then retune from scratch. In fact if anything ITV3 now seems to have a slightly better signal than it did before.

Rob - It sounds to me like you may be having problems with too high signal level. In Kidlington you are pretty much in a strong signal area from from Beckley as you can get. If you have any aerial amplifiers coming off your aerial most definitely remove them! It may be necessary to fit an attenuator between the aerial & TV. You should be able to Find them on the internet (Amazon ETC) but you would most definitely get them from Maplins on Botley road. See the Link here:-
Variable Aerial Attenuator | Maplin

Judging by your last post too strong a signal seems the most likely (OX161DJ)

Also the signal level indicators on most TVs aren't that good you shouldn't need much more than 75-85% signal strength to achieve perfect reception. 100% does indicate a signal overload.

I would say yes this is probably signal clipping. Just one suggestion take your daughters TV down to where your sony is just to see how that works. I know it is unlikely but there may be a fault with your sony tv if it has been working ok til now.

Just as a guide there has definitely been no issues with Beckley. All channels working perfectly here in Banbury
