I can confirm that all ten multiplexes from Winter Hill are normal in SW Manchester at the moment. I have noted various comments on this site and Digital Spy regarding low signal levels and as a result have checked several times and have yet to see a power reduction. Any power reduction are probably minor and very brief. Consequently they should no be noticeable on systems with a properly installed aerial in good working order.

The transmitter serves over 7 million people, if there was a genuine problem both these sites would be flooded with complaints. Tree growth is the main reason for signal loss together with water damage to the aerial and its feeder.

The digital uk website shows no problems at your location so you have some kind of local problem, aerial, cable, trees the list is endless.

Never retune when you lose channels, TVs don't forget them unless they are faulty and you have now wiped part of its memory until as far as those channels are concerned.

More importantly.

NEVER PUT YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS ON ANY WEBSITE!

There seems to be a hang up on this site about weak signals from Winter Hill. Every time I read this I check and all 10 multiplexes are OK. Any periods of reduced power will be extremely brief and occur during the day time. Winter Hill serves over 7 million people, it is second only to Crystal Palace, if there was a problem web sites like this would be inundated with complaints as would the national press. Reception problems have been dealt with on this together with the Digital Spy website hundreds of times, Google your problem and follow the advice given. You have a problem, it could be anything, if you can't find it you will need the services of a competent aerial rigger.

Heaven knows why they keep posting this, I have never seen any instances of it so they must be rare and brief. The problem is that people with faulty aerial systems seem to keep latching on to it instead of investigating their systems.

A loft mounted group C/D aerial is not suitable for reception of channels 31 and 37, which are used for comms 7&8, as the response at those frequencies together with the fact that they are transmitted at lower power means you are operating at the edge of the digital cliff unless you are in a very strong signal area. A log periodic together with a head amplifier might work but the only sensible solution is to have a roof mounted aerial installed by a competent rigger. What is your approximate location?

BBC 4HD and CBeebies HD moved from Comm 7 (ch31) to Comm 8 (ch37) today. Some equipment will sort itself out, possibly overnight, others will need a retune to restore the service.
