Roof top aerial, WH, receiving Freeview

I see as part of phase two of the digital switch over there is a significant boost in power. I've read that too strong a signal can cause loss of picture and I'm concerned as my roof top aerial currently has a masthead amp. If I encounter problems can I simply remove the 'antiference p1200' power supply unit from my set-up and all will work OK? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Andy: Thanks for the reply jb38.

I am seriously considering swapping over to the Sheffield transmitter, but not until after after 27 September when it starts transmitting ArqB (will this mean a new aerial or just rotating it to vertical?). The reason for changing from Belmont would be to get my more local news, but we've managed without for the last 10 years! :-).

Do you think I will have problems remaining with Belmont after 17 August and beyond (due to the power increase) and ought to source an attenuator just in case? Cheers.

Andy: Jb38 that is really helpful and reassuring - thank you for taking the time to help with my queries. (Had no problems with the BBC 1 swap over on 3 August, so that bodes well for the 17 August).

Hi

(S17 3DP - W band aerial (H) - currently Belmont transmitter - 100% quality)
Is Sheffield transmitter now transmitting all Muxes at full power? I thought ArqB and full power was going to happen on 27th Sept?
The reason I ask is that I am probably going to have my aerial altered so that I am getting my local programmes/news rather than Lincs.
I am sure I'll be able to get a good signal from Sheffield as even though my aerial is pointing the wrong way and wrong polarity I'm getting C24 (Strength 52%; Quality 90%) and C42 (Strength 43%; Quality 40%), but not the other Sheffield channels.
Cheers

Keith: Thanks. Bring some leaflets with you - all my neighbours currently get Freeview from Belmont! :-)

Hi, Do you know if the signal strength is going to be increased for C55 (LS)? Although I am in a relatively poor reception area for the Sheffield Transmitter it is generally satisfactory and I prefer it over Belmont due to the more relevant local news. Currently the strength and quality of my C55 reception is very poor and unwatchable. Sheffield Live TV stores itself on Ch800 rather than Ch8 and rarely gets beyond a frozen pixelated picture.

Dave: Thanks for the reply and yes I'm on a South East slope. Officially I shouldn't be able to receive from Sheffield Transmitter, but following the digital switch over and associated power upgrade I get reasonable quality most of the time. It is a pity about the lack of quality for Sheffield Live though. Does anyone know anything about the Grenoside Transmitter being available and whether it will I'll be able to bensfit being at a relatively high point in S17? Cheers
