AndyC:

Old equipment can start doing strange things.

The when it starts to allocate random numbers for your channels its time to definitely upgrade.

PVR units usually only last about 4 years before they start having issues.

You are probably right.

Most equipment that I see failing is generally cheap in the first place.

My experience is more systems than the equipment.

joyce:

sky reception is from a satellite out in space which is completely different to freeview which reception is from a transmitter.

sky reception relies on ZERO obstacles in the way between the dish and satellite so should always work correctly.

Freeview reception can sometimes have obstacles such as trees and buildings giving some locations issues.

That aside, an aerial should only be installed if it can achieve perfect reception.

If there are problems with the communal reception then the original installer should put any issues right.

Michelle:

There are 2 free tv systems.

Freeview which is received via a tv aerial and built into all current TV's.

Freesat which is received via a satellite dish, some TV's have this built in but not many, most people purchase a separate receiver which can connect to the tv via HDMI or SCART.

Freesat has far more channels than Freeview.

If you look online you can see which channels are available.

Emma Slade:

You will never get any issue with the reception being sent from the satellite.

The only issue you would ever get would be the system ie sat dish, cable etc or your equipment.

Freeview on the other hand can have issues such as transmitter works as well as systems and equipment.

Emma Slade :

hi,

As I always say "things don't choose a specific time to stop working"

It is generally unlikely to be the cable.

It could be the equipment

The dish

or the communal distribution system which is a multi switch

Do you know someone that is on sky? (not in your block of flats)

if so you could take your freesat box to their house and see if the channels are working.

If they are NOT working then problem is with your box.

If the channels are working then it will be the system at your flat.

mel:

If the box still does not work after a reboot then there is clearly an issue with the box.

Even if the box was working at your aunts house, they never choose a specific time to develop a fault.
