The TV licence is law for anybody who views live tv reception.

It is not their responsibility to make sure that your system is in full working order to receive the signal that they are transmitting.

As a resolve you should check if a digi box fixes the problem as the issue could lie with your freeview tuner inside the tv.

Failing that the issue will be with the aerial itself or the coax cable.

If you system has been in place for 20years plus the chances are your in need of an upgrade.

The bbc channels are on a different mux to itv and channel 4 which are both on the same mux.

Although the mux which all these channels are on get outputted at the same strength this does not mean you will receive them the same.

This is determined by aerial location, you can move an aerial simply a few feet and receive mux's differently, this is why when an antenna is fitted the installer should check all mux's prior to mounting the aerial making sure all are working correctly.

If you have been receiving BBC channels with no issues then I can only assume that the reception is marginal, this means that for the most it will be working fine but when there are changes in the atmosphere and changes in temperature your signal will be reduced on the cable and therefor move your signal from marginal to poor. If your signal was very good then the temperature we currently have will only reduce the strength to good, giving you a working channel.

If in fact some of your muxs are very good and some marginal then the only real resolve for this would be to have the antenna mounting in a location where all muxs are very good.

Power has not been reduced.

Its is more likely that the mux that runs these channels is running marginal and you are now experiencing issues with them.

If your antenna is sited outside it will not last forever, general about 20 years but that does depend on the quality of the materials used.

You should only return your set when there has been changes to the tv channel line up.

If your receiver cannot see a channel when the aerial is not working correctly then all a retune will do is delete it from the tv memory.

Retunes do not fix problems with system reception.

If you are running more than 1 tv maybe try rigging the system to just one tv and see what reception you get.

failing this I would look at changing the antenna or is location.

Hi,

Its difficult to say without viewing the install but here are a few pointers.

**all of which are tricky without the correct test equipment** :)

there are only a few things that will cause issues on only a single mux.

You may have something in the line of sight which is making the reception on the one mux marginal, this can be cured by mounting the aerial in a different part of the house which doesn't have the obstruction.

When it is hot you lose signal strength, if one or more mux are running on marginal reception then this drop in signal strength will be noticed on the channels you view.

You will need to get all 6 muxs running at the same strength and quality so that you never have issues in hot or cold weather.

Changing your aerial so that it is Vertical rather than Horizontal could assist the issue, also moving the aerial to a different part of the building could also be another thing to try.

Vertical reception on Rowridge is transmitted at a stronger reception rather than horizontal.

If your antenna is 20years plus in age you should also consider replacement.

The main thing to remember is that the strength and quality of the signal at the point of the aerial is the most important thing, if the reception is not correct at the beginning of the install its never going to be right further down the cable regardless of what you do.

If you decide you need a professional then give me a call, I cover your area.

Hopefully your issue was down to transmitter works.

As HD are on UHF 21 and standard are on other UHF settings then it is possible to have an issue with some channels and not others. channels are transmitted on 6 different UHF settings, if one setting is not being received correctly then all channels on that setting will have issues.

However, if the problem continues you should check weather you have a group A aerial or Wideband aerial.

Group A are designed to perform well on UHF 21-37

Widebands are designed to perform on UHF 21-68 however they only perform well the higher up the UHF spectrum you go, due to this they do not perform very well on UHF 21 which is the channel you HD channels are received on.

Contact a local installer who should provide a free test and advise on the best way to move forward to rectify your issue.

Diagnosis shouldn't take very long.

With regards to your TV I have always found that SONY is rock solid with reception even when I have assessed installs of very poor reception.

BRIAN-

Even if you tv is not always showing the problem a system test can still find a fault.

See how the new tv works then look to call someone to test the system.

In your location I am very surprised that you have an aerial in the loft.

If you continue to get further issues give me a call and I can pop over and test it.

I am local to you and an RDI approved installer.

Kate dachowski:

Hi,

I am a local install engineer who is currently using the same transmitter as you.

There are definitely no issues today with this reception so any problems you are currently having are either down to the equipment or the system.

Retuning your equipment will never fix an issue with the signal you are receiving.

If your issue with the muxes are on both the tv and recorder then you are likely to be having issues with your system.

If you don't get a resolve give me a call and we can arrange for a system test.

I am an approved installer with the RDI.

I see that you had this same problem a while back.

It may be that your reception is marginal which could be down to many different things.

Type of aerial
aerial location
age of aerial
age of cable

have you tried turning your aerial from horizontal to vertical?
