John T. Lewis: Your losing a mux, so its worth checking the other muxes - are they on low power?

If they are, then its likely you have a problem with your aerial system. Work back from the TV, checking for lose connections, etc. Also check the booster - if its power supply is beginning to fail, then that can cause problems.

If needed, you might need to call out a pro, but at least do all the checks first, and it might be worth thinking whether you need a booster at all - a lot were put in when the digital signal was very low. If its acting up, you might get someone to just take it out.

Robert: Considering that we've had TV's in the house since the late 30's, and they were mostly cathode ray tube ones, wouldn't we have noticed a problem by now?

Bill Pattinson: It might be that the problem is to do with retunes, etc. But the reason we advise a look at cables etc first is thats the most likely cause.

Think of it this way - 5200 use that transmitter. If just 1 house in 500 has a problem with their system, for whatever reason, then thats 10 people who have a problem. That doesn't mean the there isn't a problem with the transmitter, but the only information we have to go on is what is officially announced.

Faults with people's systems are not always straightforward, and lots of things can go wrong - and they can be intermittent..

Robert: But since people now live longer, they are more likely to develop cancer at some point, simply because they have more time to.

Of course, if screens are so deadly, why are you using one right now to look at the net? Surely you should be lowering your risk as much as possible?

Robert: But you are exposing yourself to danger right now, just by typing onto a screen. For your health, shouldn't you stop?

John Fitzpatrick: Your signal strength is 91% - thats screaming you have too much signal, and thus every so often the tuners in the Humax (because thats what you really have) are overloading, hence the breakup.

The mux strength probably hasn't changed much, but it might just be enough to make it unwatchable.

There may be another problem, but I strongly suggest searching for 'too much of a good thing' on this website, and purchasing a couple of attenuators.

E.Montague: We've heard this lots of times on this website, and the answer is simple - your not 2nd close citizens and you are getting exactly what you are paying for with your licence fee.

You want more channels? Move or get Freesat. The commercial reality is that your not worth broadcasting to by most channels - the cost is too high per person. Thats a business reality. Get Freesat, and you can watch them all.

As for your signal problems, thats almost certainly to do with your system - if the transmitter is working fine, then it has to be you.

Steve: The weather might have caused water to get into the system, etc. Check all connections and cables , and if your signal is still too low (check it), then you might have to call out a professional.

John Fitzpatrick: To be fair, they have to ask the right questions - Humax's are well known to have sensitive tuners, and BT's biggest problem is usually broadband issues, not TV ones.

Edmond Condillac: I have no idea how Planet Knowledge operates as a channel, but assuming its via a smart box, then you'll need an HD box connected via the HDMI's.
