Bill McDonald: put your postcode into the site, and it should tell you signal you should get at your location. If it's rubbish because of geography etc, just get Freesat.

Lindsay: what's your location? Put your postcode into the site when you post a reply, and that should give people an idea of what you should be getting. Next, check your aerial system - if your signal is too weak, then it's your system, unless you are in an area which is marginal.

StevensOnln1: The bulk of Tv's from the four major brands these days are smart, and will have WiFi and apps automatically loaded, plus others to download, including IPlayer, etc. You can of course also make a Tv 'smart by adding a firestorm or any other smart device, suxhnas a smart blue ray player or recorder, as you pointed out.

Susan Devine: because a BT Youview box is a Freeview HD PVR, with the access to the internet governed by your BT package. Have you actually set it up properly?

Rob T: why is your signal marginal?

Dre: if your getting 85% strength and 60% quality, that's screaming that your signal is too strong. So why bother to go on the roof to fit another aerial, when you are boosting your signal? Either perhaps bypass the amp, and see if you can distribute via another non boosting route, or just get some attenuated and kill the signal at the tv end - cheaper and easier.

Ken Johnson: You are just 2.4km from the transmitter - you should get a decent picture from a bit of old wire! Check the signal strength - it's probably too high, not too low.

Btw - why not just use Freesat?

Jeff: Panasonic's are know to have sensitive tuners, so I am not surprised they are breaking up - your tv is perhaps slightly less sensitive, etc. You need to kill that signal level, no matter what you might think is going on with the transmitter, which probably has nothing to do with your problem.

Diana Brown: You can vary the sound volume on different inputs - go to the setup menu. If your recording to a seperate box, remember that box will it have it's own separate volume, which needs to be set to maximum, and the tv can also have it's own volume for each input.

Frankly, if the sound is that bad (and the difference should be no more than marginal) then get a sound bar. Watching a tv in standard just isn't as good as hd, and is frankly not getting the most from a tv.
