Not at all David, You can lead a horse to the trough, but you cannot make it drink.

BBC do not advertise, the fee covers their costs. Do you get all BBC channels in Todmorden? If not then complain to the BBC. Independent channels are so called because they are not supported by the licence fee. I said in my first post that it is all about money. The advertisers are not going to support small communities as they will not get the revenue to cover the cost. Instead of batting your gums and having a pop at me with petty remarks like 'Lost for words, Ron?', go and live somewhere else or complain to the IBA.
I simply mentioned that the fee would be much greater if we had to pay directly for each channel. Murdoch and Co. seem to have found that out. Logic and Thinking? try it sometime.

It would appear that no amount of trying to appease Mr. Mansell is going to work. He obviously has a chip on his shoulder the size of a sackfull of potatoes. I hope he manages to find the channels he is looking for at some time in the future but I do not think that anyone is going to run him a personal feed from Emley Moor to Todmorden.
Thanks for the input Mr. Davison. You, at least, have grasped what I was trying to get over to him. We all may now continue to benefit from what is regarded by thousands of people as a very useFULL forum.
jb38, on Denise Farnaby's problem, could it be a thermal fault in the digital circuitry? Seems to me to point to something working until it heats up and then disconnecting. I may be completely wrong of course.

jb38, Thank you for that vote of confidence. I really was trying just to explain why these 'iniquities' exist but the man just became so petulant that I am afraid I almost sank to his level. I would next have suggested he complain to his local MP, but thinking about his obvious IQ, he probably IS the local MP. They go in for this Yah Boo stuff trying to score Brownie points dont they? Mansell, rings a bell somehow.
On Denise's problem, yes with the short time to failure, coupled with the fact that analogue is working does seem a thermal issue with a component on the digital side. I note that the Lady lives in Leeds where presently there are a lot of tower cranes. Is it possible that these can cause such problems? In the last few weeks there have also been interruptions at Emley Moor due to ongoing DSO related works. These are published on here though which is another reason this forum is useFULL. Oh dear, slap my own wrist, mustn't be naughty.

David Parker. No one will 'have a go at you' for expressing what is a valid and valuable opinion. For what it is worth, I fully agree with you AND Mr. Mansell that the iniquity is grossly unfair. I was simply trying to point out the reason for this iniquity but David took it upon himself to start being unpleasant and his complaint should have been directed in the first place to the IBA or his local MP, who MAY be able to help him. The people on here unfortunately can not help him with his particular problem as they have no control over what is transmitted or from where. I did say on the 29th of Feb that I didn't want to engage in a flame war but David seemed to insist on making petty remarks like 'Lost for words?' I'm sorry Sir but if someone is going to have a pop at me for trying to explain something then he is likely to get both barrels.

On the subject of your reception problem I am afraid that I can not help as I do not use HD but I am quite sure that there are others who can, and will, be happy to. Looking at your location, I would have thought that the Emley transmitter would give an excellent signal, could it perhaps be too strong? Thoughts anyone?

Mike Dimmick, Thanks for the info on current authority. I used what I knew was the IBA simply to differentiate between the Independents and the BBC. Much obliged for the update.

David Mansell, Please refer to Mike's post.

David Parker, Failing any reply from Brian or other knowledgable posters on here, I would be inclined to 'Google' Technika STBHDIS2010 and see if there is any info about it relative to this problem. I reckon your threat of the bin would have worked better with my wife than with your box, although both are inanimate objects which cause problems haha.

David Parker, Sorry to hear of your loss in such a way, mine ran off with my best friend (whoever he is), enough said about that.

Yes, please do google and select AV Forums. I can not say anything on here about what I found as a certain supermarket chain may want to sue, but DO have a read, it's very enlightening.

This applies to anyone else with this particular box.

As my Mum used to say, "buy the best you can sfford, it is cheaper in the long run". All I can suggest is to take it back and ask for something which is "fit for purpose", this box seems to be inadequate.
All the best, Ron.

David Parker,
I'm happy if I have been able to help you in any way, however small. At least you got some advice from the seller and can go forward either way from there.
In fairness to Brian and his regular team of techies, there are a lot of different pages / topics to monitor and offer help on. During the switchover which is still ongoing in various parts of the country, they must have their work cut out for them and it IS all done on a voluntary basis. It must also get up their noses when certain people (no names) come on and gripe about lack of channels, when the channels aren't even being transmitted at that location. It is not under their control.
I hope the advice works and if not, you can at least return the item and have something which will work as it should.
Please get back to us after you allowed the box to upgrade to let us know what if anything has improved so that the info can then be shared with anyone else having similar problems.
Best of luck, Hope it works out ok.
Ron.

David Parker,
Seems this is not a reliable product. Don't bin it, I would take it back to the supplier and ask for a refund or something which WILL work as this is clearly unsuitable. If they give you the link for a firmware update, ask THEM to do it, don't tell them you have or it may void your warranty.
Must add that this is my opinion and not to be attributed to this site or its owner.
Best of luck,
Ron.
