Having problems with TV background music?
Saturday 1 November 2014 11:19PM

I love music and enjoy listening to big band & jazz.

When I switch to say, the news, I want to hear what is said. What possible excuse can there be to make the speech more difficult to hear by adding MUSICK.

Certainly there is enough drama in the stories without adding artificial effects Why is it always necessary to add MUSICK to the headlines. What is the cost of this addition?

Having problems with TV background music?

I see comments about using forms of tone control. This can help but most TVs do not have those facilities and with those that do it can be a complicated visit to the sound menu.

I find that reducing the low frquencies can improve speech clarity while a reduction of treble frequencies makes the sound muffled.

My hearing is very poor so I always have to use headphones with TV or radio. Most of the time I also have subtitles on to help. Where subtitles do help immensely is when they insist on adding "back-ground" mu-sick. Not only does this intrusion make the dialogue more difficult to hear but because I have to strain more to hear the speech, after a short time I get a head ache. Switching off the sound and relying on subtitles is one answer, the other is to record the programme and watch in small doses. Why o why do they have to put the noise on during the "head-lines". When I raised this point with a broadcaster they said
"it adds drama" What a laugh!

I have a Panasonic TV, TX-40AX630B, about 9 months old which has Bluetooth. I am having difficulty in pairing my Bluetooth Creative headphones to the TV. Can you please tell me if this TV will work with headphones?

Thank you MikeB & MikeP for your help. I like the idea of a dongle in the USB socket. Something that I may try.

My post code is ST15 0PQ near Stone in Staffordshire. My TV aerial is directed towards Sutton Coldfield transmitter but being high up I can see the Wrekin from the village.
Recently I have had problems with BBC 1 HD going off saying "no signal". Checking the signal levels I found the my TV was actually tuned to CH30 for this and other HD programmes where I also have problems. I believe CH30 is from the Wrekin transmitter which maybe is why the signal level is good & constant bet the quality level varies drastically.
I have now retuned but instead of accepting the sorting sequence highlighted, I stepped down one & used GBR sorting. I now have BBC1 HD on CH40, with perfect signal level & quality.
I hope this can help anyone with similar problems

Since the latest Windows 10 upgrade, my BT Home Page only partially appears. I reinstalled Win 10 & the page worked fine until this upgrade was reinstalled & then the problem re-occurred. I use Edge as the browser & BT as my broadband provider.
Have you any ideas why this happens please?

I am able to get to my emails via Google easily.

I keep losing BBC News HD, Freeview 107. It seems that loss of Ch33 & Ch35 are the cause and affects all the programmes on those channels. Checking the "signal level" it shows 10, but on "signal condition" it is 0, at these times of loss. My rooftop aerial faces Sutton Coldfield transmitter. I use a Panasonic TV TX-40AX630B. I also have BT Vision installed. Post Code ST15 0PQ. The signal levels from the Wrekin transmitter are fairly high as we can see the Wrekin.

I have been involved with TV work since the 1950s, but at 85 I am a little out of touch now. When the signal "condition" is poor, what makes it poor, please? Could it be due to the Wrekin interference?
