Tony:
This is the same fault in the EPG data - Slashless CRIDs- that brought down SONY DVD recorders in 2013.

The current culprit is GREAT! tv +1 - off the GIM multiplex - Winter Hill UHF Channel 27.

If you can avoid tuning that multiplex in, you may be ok.

This channel is also on Freesat with the same faulty data.

The equivalent data off GREAT! Tv does not have any error..

The Wales region was duplicated from region 43 in the "DTH Wales" bouquet onto region 32 in the "DTH Other" bouquet, some years ago.

Region 43 on the "DTH Wales" bouquet is no longer used or kept up to date.

Pretty strange, ironic, stupid, ridiculous - that the "BSkyB Bouquet 3 - DTH Wales" doesn't have an active Welsh region anymore!

Perhaps steve P will tell us which LCN BBC R Cymru 2 is on, on his box?

No EPG for LCN 101 in the North East or North West D3&4 multiplexes.

As everyone knows, the freeview EPG is carried on every multiplex.

I wrote a program that reads this data and outputs an xmltv file, which is fed to a viewer program, allowing me to see what's on telly.

I was testing some new subroutines using now/next (because it's fast).

Now I had previously incorporated a subroutine to look for event overruns and output a list, if found.

This is what was output using the Bilsdale satellite-feed service information:

There are no names or LCNs for these services as they no longer exist.

Exactly the same result was obtained from the North West D3&4, but with the addition of an event off the GIM local multiplex:

Looking at the full EPG schedule off these D3&4 multiplexes, the now non-existent services have full eight-day EPG, frozen in time, from the day of their removals.

There is a full 8 days for BBC ONE HD starting Wed 26 Apr, but nothing for BBC ONE NWstHD or BBC ONE NE&CHD.

This was verified on my LG TV by tuning to ITV1 and powering off.

After powering back on, the TV Guide for BBC ONE NWstHD remained blank.

This issue is now fixed for "WildEarth", but remains for "GREAT! tv +1" on the GIM multiplex.

What hasn't been fixed is this:

Invalid Character Codes in the EIT off North West multiplex BBC A. Date: 2023/06/23 14:46:58

It has become apparent through observation that invalid bytes in the Freeview EIT text strings are the low-order bytes of the Unicode General Punctuation Block:

Of course only bytes less than 0x20 qualify as invalid codes in the context of EIT text strings.

Since about April 2018, the following invalid codes have been found in the Freeview EIT text items:

0x01, substitute: {0x01} -> Unicode Character: "EM QUAD" (U + 2001)
0x08, substitute: { } -> Unicode Character: "PUNCTUATION SPACE" (U + 2008)
0x0B, substitute: {} -> Unicode Character: "ZERO WIDTH SPACE" (U + 200B)
0x10, substitute: {-} -> Unicode Character: "HYPHEN" (U + 2010)
0x13, substitute: {--} -> Unicode Character: "EN DASH" (U + 2013)
0x14, substitute: {---} -> Unicode Character: "EM DASH" (U + 2014)
0x18, substitute: {L'} -> Unicode Character: "LEFT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK" (U + 2018)
0x19, substitute: {R'} -> Unicode Character: "RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK" (U + 2019)
0x1C, substitute: {L''} -> Unicode Character: "LEFT DOUBLE QUOTATION MARK" (U + 201C)
0x1D, substitute: {R''} -> Unicode Character: "RIGHT DOUBLE QUOTATION MARK" (U + 201D)

There are 30 invalid codes in the current EIT:
invalid code, count, percentage
0x18, 1, 3.33%
0x19, 19, 63.33%
0x1C, 5, 16.67%
0x1D, 5, 16.67%

There are 25 events with invalid codes in the current EIT.

Karl:

My EIT program optionally outputs series CRID lists, organised by "default_authority".

Here is a dump that includes lists before and after the fix:

dump.7z (472.40KB)

https://www.sendspace.com…rx9u

dump.7z contains complete series CRID lists for both freeview and Freesat.

Slashless CRIDs remain for "GREAT! tv +1" on freeview and Freesat.

The default_authority for "GREAT! tv +1" is "sonycrimechannel.co.uk" on freeview but "great.tv" on Freesat.

The default_authority for wildearth is "wildearth.tv"

AFAIK this information is not normally displayed although Humax have a way of showing it.

From the Wikipedia article:

Format
crid://authority/data

The "authority" part is "default_authority" and is usually present as a string in an SDT descriptor

The "data" part on freeview and Freesat appears as strings in descriptors at the event level in the EIT and always starts with a slash - or should do!

That makes no sense to me, given the format definition contains a slash, but that's the way it is.

Karl: Well, I checked before I posted that the download worked and was taken directly to the download page where I downloaded the file.

When I closed the page I found that a page with an advert for the Opera browser had been opened.

Sendspace have a paid for option of direct download link.

I would think what you saw was one of those dodgy antivirus adverts.
