Chris.SE: Ah, thanks for that Chris, I didn't mean to pressure you.

I was thinking you had maybe spotted some Extended Event Descriptors.

They can convey series and episode separately from the usual programme description.

Freesat transmits them but I'm not aware of any Freesat device that actually uses them.

I recall a report of them appearing on Freeview, Channel Five I think, ages ago.

I hadn't noticed before that the Freesat EPG has Extended Event Descriptors for 5 USA.

Here is an example:

************
5 USA +1, Sun 29 Mar 02:55 - 03:50: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
A six-year-old boy disappears during a wild drug party thrown by his mother. With a child's life at stake, the case causes Benson to question her own role as a mother. (S18 Ep 8)[S]
(Contains strong language and drug use)

<extended_event_descriptor lang = eng>
EpisodeName = Chasing Theo
EpisodeNumber = 8
SeriesNumber = 18
AlphaSortIndexEventName = Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
TEXT:
Drama series about an NYPD unit specialising in sex-related crimes. A six-year-old boy disappears during a wild drug party thrown by his mother. With a child's life at stake, the case causes Benson to question her own role as a mother [S]
</extended_event_descriptor>
************

Does anyone see this stuff on their Freesat device?

I tried searching for "AlphaSortIndexEventName" and came up empty except for my own posts on here. It seems an unlikely term to use on a consumer device.

Chris.SE: There was nothing objectionable in the post that I am aware of.

As for "automated censor" I'm fairly certain it was there earlier.

The post was merely showing how the 5 USA +1 event cited above was technically delivered.

Perhaps someone thought that information should not be published.

js: Nothing quite like freedom of information, eh? Censor??? We don't need no stinking censor!

It's a real pain to have to redo this and I've had a few beers so not sure I've got it right but this is essentially what I posted.

I'm replacing < by [ and > by ] in case that was the trigger for the "moderation".

Here is an xml dump from the TransEdit TS Analyser of the afore-mentioned Extended Event, illustrating its structure:

well, it's still there. If it gets "moderated", that would be interesting. Meanwhile, it's bedtime for bonzo.

Chris.SE: I had it in a text file but deleted that after checking it was up on here. I remember copying the xml part of it off here and checking if worked in Internet Explorer - which it did. That it contained a valid xml file may have caused the moderation of it.

My intention was to show how the Items are sent and how the term "AlphaSortIndexEventName" is a transmitted field name, one which is hardly likely to appear on a consumer device.

Simon: Yes indeed, Windows. It used to be called "mouse driver" by some MSDOS users! But I find Linux is pretty much back to DOS - and damned awkward as far as drivers. You could dual boot or run a portable bootable W8 off USB.
