Local TV on Freeview - locations announced
Wednesday 10 August 2011 12:14PM

Briantist:
As some of these locations are relays with just PSB1, 2 and 3
dose this mean that it will replace a channel
or will it be a new small multiplex?

Also will this start when Channel 5 starts or after digital switch on/over.

Local TV on Freeview - new Ofcom maps | Local TV
Wednesday 10 August 2011 9:45PM

Brian:
You have the Mid-Sussex or Heathfield, Haywards Heath and Uckfield map displayed as Hemel Hempsted.
(The second map labelled Hemel Hempsted)

Some of the listed places are TV relays, some are radio transmitters and some don't have any type of transmitter.
Do you know if successful they will transmit from that town or just from the nearest main transmitter?

This new extra capacity should NOT be adding 35 HD extra channels for some viewers
but by making some of the selected array channels into national channels.
E.g. IVT3, ITV4, Film4 et cetera being transmitted from a new multiplex from all transmitters.

If you disagree with me then just close down all transmitters apart from Crystal Palace and transmit millions of channels that transmitter only.

I think the reduction of BBC1 regions on satellite would upset a lot of people if it's their region.

Perhaps having a red button service with the local 6:30pm to 7:00pm news repeated region by region may help.
Eg. BBC1 region A repeated at 6am-6:30am then region B at 6:30am-7am, ... then after all regions shown repeat region A again.

Regions not removed from the main BBC1 channel would not need to be shown in the red button loop.

Crystal Palace has been transmitting digital since November 1998 and analogue only ends this month.
But the relays get the first digital on the day BBC 2 analogue ends, then two weeks later get some more digital TV when BBC1, ITV and Channel 4 analogue ends.
So some have over 11 years to switch but others have to switch on the day BBC2 analogue ends then again two weeks later.

I guess they also need to allow some time for the chap on his bike to get to all the transmitters.

I can now watch the 7o'clock news at 7pm on Channel 4
The 7o'clock news at 8pm on Channel 4+1 and last week news a week later on Channel 4-seven.

PS. I can also watch it in SD and HD at the same time on two TV's.

After the Olympics what will happen to the bandwidth used by the BBC HD stream?
Will it be used for a HD channel, Channel 5 HD or some SD channels?
As the HD stream is on the Freeview light network as well as the main transmitters,
I hope for some more choice and not a +1 channel or a HD channel the same as the SD one.

Title reads 'Switchover starts June 2012'
First line reads 'Switchover starts September 2012'
June 2012 has come and gone.
Think title is wrong.
