Thanks very much for the rapid reply. I'm still confused, however. This is what the Samsung website says:
'Samsungs extended Personal Video Recorder Ready feature makes catching up on your favourite shows convenient and easy. Simply plug in your USB memory and HDD and select the channel, time, and date in the menu and let Personal Video Recorder Ready feature do the rest, allowing you to watch your favourite shows anytime you want.'
Which implies that I don't need any sort of tuner in the recording device. If that's right, what happens if there is a tuner in the device? Does it mess it up?

Thanks very much - I hadn't spotted the manual, have had a look at it now.
Final question: presumably I can just plug an ordinary PVR, with tuner, into it and record on that?

Apologies. I meant a PVR with a freesat tuner built into it and connected to the TV would work to record freesat progammes. Do I understand correctly?

I'm just buying a Samsung TV with both freeview and freesat tuners incorporated, and will be connecting it to a satellite for freesat service.
I also want to plug in a hard disk drive and DVD player/recorder for recording programmes and occasionally transferring them to DVDs. My existing (five-year-old) one had a freeview tuner built in, and pretty much every model I can see on the web has either a freeview or freesat tuner.
What do I need to get to work with my new TV? If the hard disk has a tuner, how does it relate to the tuner(s) in the TV?
Advice would be welcome!
