Hi. I'm on Mendip, and I'm at BA45XD, shepton, so only a few miles away from it. I'm in a deep valley but have a new Ariel on the roof. Had no problems at all before this last 2 weeks. I have to daily "first time" re-tune my DVR to regain film 4. It always comes back. This is the only channel dropping and it drops overnight, every night. The TV is fine, no problem at all, just the DVR. I checked the other channells on the MUX and they don't drop?.?...

I should add that I have a variable booster turned up as high as it goes between the Ariel socket and the DVR as without it I get a pixellated signal on all channels. The TV is fed from the DVR.

I had already tried removing the booster, but no use as the picture is unwatchable. I think I have now cured it by yet another full rescan after clearing the channels by scanning with the Ariel out and deleting all the channels I don't watch. It stayed OK overnight this time so fingers crossed.

I wonder if the DVR just can't handle all the extra channels, I seem to get a lot of duplicated channels in the EPG with channel numbers ranging from 800 to 850, by removing these it seems to be holding on to Film4 now. I guess I'm getting extras from another transmitter in Wales as the CH 824 ITV1 was Welsh, as ITV1+1 still is...

Thank you Brian, that link has explained a lot about my Mendip reception problems. Deleting all the extraneous weaker 800 range channels was the answer. I also believe the DVR was attempting to record either CH1 BBC or the 800 numbered BBC1 depending upon some random ethereal selection, giving me the pixellated recording on occasion. I now have the correct channels in the correct place and staying put up to now!

Mendip (Somerset, England) Full Freeview transmitter

Shepton Mallet

Thought I might post this as it may be of help...

BA4 5XD, steep wooded valley in Bowlish, Shepton Mallet. I have had 70%/low/disappearing signals varying across the spectrum from Mendip, even though the transmitter is only a couple of miles away. This weekend the neighbour's 3 gigantic Leyland Cypress (Lelandii) trees were removed from the general line of sight and now I'm getting 88-95% signal on all free-view channels. Although the transmitter tower is still not visible the signal must be bouncing around better from the sides of the valley.

Mendip (Somerset, England) Full Freeview transmitter

BA4 5XD, within 5 miles of Mendip transmitter but not direct line of sight, newish roof ariel on a long pole.

Well, I've retuned, I've reset the DVR and then cleared the channels and retuned again...
I sincerely hope Mendip BBCA is going to have the signal strength returned to the level it was at befotre the retune today, as mine has dropped from a useable 89% to a miserable 30% on average.
I'm getting massive pixellation, 'no signal' messages and text has just gone. The BBC channels on C49 are just too weak today. If I turn my amp down I get no signal, if I remove the amp I get no signal.

Not impressed so far...
Will it be turned up again or is this the best new digital age I can expect?

All those "Special occasions" the Beeb just love to wreck BBC1 scheduling for, you know, the royal ones - as well as any sports that they can afford - Wimbledon, Cricket etc...
