Can we please stop the nonsense about the license fee being a payment to the BBC. It is a tax which goes to the UK government. The UK government like to dress it up as a payment to the BBC for obvious reasons. If it wasn't a tax then the BBC could choose what to do with it and my guess is that it wouldn't include the World Service or subsidising broadband to the shires or all the other myriad purposes for which the telecommunication tax is used.

Mr Desmond did not get where he is today by overpaying for anything. Give it a few months and Channel Five will be on HD and Mr Desmond will be somewhat richer.

klaus Kadur: Loss of reception would have nothing to do with changes to UK broadcasting. I would suggest retuning. You may also be able to pick up some of the channels on the internet (including Arte). Also try www.lyngsat.com which has up to date details of both satellites and the channels available on each.

Comet and Currys are the only opportunity for ESN students to obtain a job. Don't knock them, they are doing their best. Always remember that Alexander Graham Bell sold the first telephone when there was no-one to receive the call. That's what I call salesmanship.
